Apple released iOS 4.1 GM for developers, latest version of iOS features several improvements like resolution of several bugs including the proximity sensor iPhone 4 and some new functions like High Dynamic Range Photos, Ability to upload videos in HD on WiFi, Rent TV programs to watch streaming, Game Center and lots more. Final build of iOS 4.1 will be available in public on 8th of September and after that Apple is going to stop signing iOS 4.0.2 signature files.

That means that if you have a iPhone 4 / 3GS you cannot restore any firmware other than iOS 4.1 If you guys updated to iOS 4.1 and wanna go back to iOS 4.0.2 / 4.0.1 here is the step by step guide to downgrade your iPhone 4 / 3GS iOS 4.1 to 4.0.1 / 4.0.2 or below.

Note : You are eligible only if you saved your SHSH to Cydia Server before the release of iOS 4.1 via Cydia “make my life easier” button.

The process is very simple all you have to do is to add Saurik’s Server address to your system hosts file. This trick make iTunes thinks it is talking to Apple, it is talking to Cydia instead while the restoring process. Doing this will allow iTunes to access signatures already stored by Cydia “on file” feature. In simple words this duplicates the functionality exposed by Apple’s signature server, except using “on file” results rather than live request.

Note:

This process is only for those who saved their SHSH to Cydia Server already.

Read the whole process two-three times before starting the process.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

How to Edit and Save Hosts file in Windows

Open Notepad with Administrative privileges by clicking Start, All Programs,Accessories, and then right-click Notepad and select to open as Administrator.

Now browse to (C:/Windows / System32 / drivers / etc) in Notepad and open the hosts file, and add the following entry to the bottom of the file.

74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com <————

Now you navigate to files menu and save the hosts file. By doing this you changed the communication server from Apple to Sauriks Server, because your ECID is on that server. Now you can put your iPhone in DFU mode to restore back to to OS 4.0.2 or lower. Follow our previous guide Downgrade iPhone 3G / 3GS

_____________________________________________________________________________________

How to Edit and Save Hosts file in Mac OS X

Navigate to Finder, Click to select Go to Folder… from the Go menu and Enter /etc into the input field and click the Go button.

Now look for hosts file, right click on hosts file and open with Text Edit, and add the following entry to the bottom of the file.

74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com <————

Now save the file and click on Save As.

Because Text Editor can’t save your system files, here comes the tricky part, in save as windows use the following settings, take a close look at the following image.

Uncheck the “ If no extension is provide, use .txt “ and then press the save button.

A host file will be appear on your Desktop, just drag and drop to /etc and follow the onscreen instructions.

By doing this you changed the communication server from Apple to Sauriks Server, because your ECID is on that server. Now you can put your iPhone in DFU mode to restore to any of the previous OS. Follow our previous guide Downgrade iPhone 3G / 3GS

I know title of post sounds very exciting to those who just got their hands on iPhone 4 and it comes with iOS 4.0.2 out of box. iOS 4.0.2 out of box means no jailbreak possibility with jailbreakme, since you haven’t saved 4.0.1 SHSH on file or with Cydia you can’t downgrade to 4.0.1 Here comes a new twist, an user named CodeBlue has discovered an unconfirmed method that may allow you to downgrade your 4.0.2 iPhone to 4.0.1, jailbreak, patch the safari exploit with Saurik’s patch and be jailbroken safely.

Note : I did not try these steps. They sound good to me in theory and others are reporting some success. After all, you have nothing to lose if you are already stuck on 4.0.2 without an SHSH in Cydia. Here are the steps:

_____________________________________________________________________________________

If you were lucky to save your Cydia SHSH for 4.0.1, you can always downgrade iOS 4.0.2 to 4.0.1 for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Update : According to recent comments most of the attempts are failed, unfortunately i am still looking for a new 4.0.2 device in my local friends. I’ll post my experience here sooner or later once i get a new iDevice with iOS 4.0.2 out of box.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

1. Download firmware 4.0.1 for your iPhone.

2. Rename the file you just downloaded. ipsw to. zip and extract it with any achieve program for Windows or Mac

3. Look for *buildmanifest.plist* and open this file with notepad or text editor and replace all entries "8a306" with "8A400" and save the file, now repeat the same procedure with the file *restore.plist*

4. Download firmware 4.0.2 for your iPhone, rename it to. zip and unzip it with any achieve program for Windows or Mac.

5. Take all the files from the 4.0.1 and drag them over to the 4.0.2 zip archive that you have open.

6. Delete all the dmg files that have 002 at the end, leaving only the 001 files left.

7. Save the file and rename it to ipsw. This will be the file that used to downgrade.

8. It is not necessary for this procedure, but it will help you edit your HOSTS file in order to have a redirect server to Saurik when iTunes will check if your device is compatible with the firmware version you want to install. Here’s how:

MAC : Using Finder, click on "Go to Folder" menu "Go" and type / etc /. Copy the file "hosts" file on your desktop then open it with Text Edit and at the end of the file add the string:

74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

Always save the file on your desktop and then drag it back into the folder "/ etc"

WINDOWS : Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories and click Notepad with the right button, select "Open as Administrator". Now go to C: / Windows / system32 / drivers / etc and open the hosts file, adding the end of this line:

74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

Save the file.

8. Now put the iPhone in DFU mode and restore with the file you just created Step 7.

Note: this only works due to the similarities in 4.0.2 to 4.0.1 and 4.0. This will not be a way to downgrade to 3.1.x and may not work in future firmware updates.

(VIA BigBoss / iSpazio)

The good thing is that we do not need jailbreak * and we have just any version of firmware to run the adapter, since it is not necessary to use any external application, but since ** Preferences> iPhone> SIM Applications can choose the card want at any time.

To make matters worse, the software is not as well done it should, and the iPhone takes longer than two minutes to change between a card and another. The adapter will cost $ 28.99 and can be purchased at this link .

According to Bloomberg, Apple is planning a new media event between 9th and 15th of September in San Francisco. While Apple generally updates iPod line in September, there were rumors that the company will also show and his success in the field of TV at the event. According to source Apple plans to launch an iPod touch with retina display as well as a streaming-oriented Apple TV just for $99. Bloomberg says Apple is in advanced negotiations with News Corp. and other U.S. media companies for the distribution of TV episodes at the price of 99cents Bloomberg report suggest CBS and Walt Disney are reportedly interested in renting TV content at this price on the iTunes Store for 48 hours to offer their lending.

At that price the popular TV series and TV shows will cost a constant audience of about $ 200 (estimated calculations) a year, at this price iTV may be a too expensive alternative to cable and satellite television. On the other hand, this service gives people the opportunity to watch the series, they missed or can not take with the help of the above decisions.

Wait and watch for Apple September event, who knows how Apple will surprise us this time.

Update : Apple has finally made their September event official, and it’s coming sooner than many expected. Apple’s "special event" will be held September 1 in San Francisco, and from the looks of things it’s going to involve music.
