Mac OS X is not supported with software virtualization

Christian Delgado cracked the mystery and he already shared with us in our comment section, anyway i m sharing again with you here.

For those that keep getting the “Mac OS X is not supported with software virtualization. To run Mac OS X you need a host on which VMware Fusion supports hardware virtualization.” error. I was having the same thing, it means your processor does not support virtualization, you would probably get the same thing on if you try to use virtual pc with xp mode on windows 7. So I was really curious why my intel core 2 duo processor did not support it. Then I was checking out my BIOS Settings, and the virtualization feature was off on my BIOS.

Change The Resolution

Boot your Snow leopard VMware installation and copy the boot.plist file to your desktop, you can find boot.plist >> /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

Open the file you moved to desktop, and add following two lines before </dict>

<key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>1280x1024x32</string>

Replace the 1280x1024x32 with the resolution you want, here 1280×1024 is your screen resolution and x32 is refresh rate. Don’t change the refresh rate just change the resolution according to your monitor.

Save the file as com.apple.Boot.plist on the Desktop (make sure the .plist part is there!)

Navigate the the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ folder

Drag your com.apple.Boot.plist file on the Desktop into the folder window, When a messages appears, click Authenticate and Replace and enter your password.

You’re done! Reboot OS X to see the changes

Here is an example of what the com.Apple.boot.plist file looks like with after editing the code

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://
www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>kernel</key>
<string>mach_kernel</string>
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string></string>
<key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>1280x1024x32</string>
</dict>
</plist>

Installing Sound Driver

First of all take a snapshot of the VM, now look for EnsoniqAudioPCI.mpkg.tar.gz from the Snowy_Vmware_files.tbz2 archive you downloaded earlier. Simply launch the pkg and choose both options, type your password when prompted and once installation finishes reboot your system.

Remove SleepEnabler.kext in existing Mac OS X if it’s been used, as new kernel version 10.6.2 will cause kernel panic when install over old version of SleepEnabler.kext. Most Pro applications from Apple including Final Cut Pro, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Aperture, Logic Pro, Logic Express, Shake and Final Cut Express — are not supported by Rosetta. If you have already installed Rosetta on your Intel Mac in Snow Leopard, you may want to disable it, so as to prevent the system from running PowerPC apps without informing you that they are non-native to your system’s architecture. The reason for disabling Rosetta is not so much to save space (as it’s only 2.1MB), but more about keeping your system running native apps for higher performance.

To disable Rosetta, simply run the following command in Terminal:

sudo sysctl –w kern.exec.archhandler.powerpc=/usr/libexec/oah/RosettaNonGrata

To re-enable Rosetta after it’s been disabled, just run the following command in Terminal:

sudo sysctl -w kern.exec.archhandler.powerpc=/usr/libexec/oah/translate

These commands set a system environment variable that tells the system which program to run when you try to launch a non-native app : to ask you to install Rosetta, or to run it using Rosetta.

                                                                                                                                                                                            [VIA]

Recently Apple pushed 10.6.1 update for Snow Leopard, Apple also updated HP printer drivers for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard to version 2.2 Before installing the latest drivers users are advised to uninstall any existing HP software and use the included drivers and software. If your printer is not working properly after installing the software update then follow the troubleshooting section below.

How to Install HP printer driver with Apple Software Update : Open the Software Update from the Apple menu, allow it to complete the process of “Checking for new software”, and then connect your printer or add it using the Print & Fax pane of System Preferences. If software for your printer is available through Software Update, you will see a prompt asking if you would like to download and install this software.

Troubleshooting :

Ensure the printer is connected, has power, has ink / toner, paper, and no alerts on its built-in display.

Network based printers should be on the same subnet; you shouldn’t have to worry about this if your printer is on your home network.

Use Software Update for the latest available updates.

Delete the affected printer from Printer & Fax System Preferences, then re-add the printer.

If the issue persists, reset printing system, then re-add the printer.

If the issue persists, contact the printer vendor and/or visit their website for printer software and support.

Mac OS X has a inbuilt Disk Utility created by Apple for performing disk-related tasks in Mac OS X. Disk Utility is able to create, convert, compress and encryption of disk images from a wide range of formats read by Disk Utility to .dmg or—for CD/DVD images—.cdr, which is identical to the .iso format. So if you ever need to burn a Image file or .ISO file then simply launch the Disk Utility and perform the following steps.

Insert a blank disc in your DVD Drive and start Disk Utility.

From the File menu, choose Open Disk Image and select the ISO to be burned.

In the list of volumes, you will now see an item representing the ISO file. Select it.

In the following tutorial we used Snow Leopard build 10A432 GM release (now confirmed that retail disc is build 10A432). Snow Leopard needs a Leopard Install so we need to two hard disk one with Leopard already installed and second hard disk for Snow Leopard. Also you need to download some files needed during the installation so download the files given below. We’ll update these files regularly when the new updates will available.

Phase One

____________________________________________________________________________________

Step One). Connect both of your Hard Disk one is blank and one is pre loaded with Leopard (10.5.X) already. Boot in to Leopard and launch Disk Utility to partition your second hard-disk with GUID partition scheme. Name the partition what ever you want in this tutorial we assumed Snow.

Make sure that the new volume’s root directory is owned by the root user, just perform the following commands in terminal.

sudo –s

chown 0:0 /Volumes/Snow

Step Two). Mount the Snow Leopard DMG File, an installer window will appear here click on the free space anywhere in windows then press CMD + Shift + G . A little window will appear in the top of existing window in this little window type “Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages/” without quotes as given in image below and press Go.

Step Three). In the next window find the OSInstall.mpkg and double click this package file to start your Snow leopard Installation.

Note : Default OSInstall.mpkg works for GUID partitioned drive only, if you need to install on MBR then google for Modified OSInstall.mpkg for MBR, download modified one and replace with default one.

Step Four). Follow the On Screen instruction and in Destination Select Choose the Snow Partition which you created on a separate blank hard disk.

Step Five). In customization remove the unnecessary languages and Printers. Sit back and have a cup of coffee installation will take 15-25 minutes depending on your hardware. Once Installation finishes don’t reboot and follow the instruction care fully in phase 2.

____________________________________________________________________________________

Phase Two

____________________________________________________________________________________

In the second phase we’ll install Bootloader, some must required Kexts, System Files and Patching the DSDT.

Step One). Open the Chameleon Bootloader Zip you downloaded earlier and install the Chameleon-2-1.0-r431.pkg and then install the Chameleon v2 Snow Leopard Support.pkg (If Snow Support Package Shows an Error Then Follow Step Two) . Make sure to install the both Chameleon packages to Snow Drive (Where you Installed the Snow Leopard). You can change the install location at the third option while Installation in both packages.

( If Chameleon 2.0 + EFI 10 gives you Kernel Panics then reinstall and try Chameleon 1.0 + EFI 10)

Step Two). If you are using PCEFI bootloader on your existing system then Chameleon v2 Snow Leopard Support.pkg will not work for you. In that case you have two options either install the Chameleon-2-1.0-r431.pkg over your current 10.5.X Installation then reboot and do the process again (from Phase One). Or launch the “ShowAllFiles” (included in Tools) and click Show. Then Navigate to the root of your “Snow” Drive and delete the “boot” file you see. and replace it with the boot file included with Chameleon Download (you downloaded earlier). After replacing the boot file again launch the “ShowAllFiles” and click Hide.

Step Three). Now patch your DSDT, launch the DSDT Patcher (Included in Tools) and select Darwin/Mac OS X in Operating System, Select DSDT Patch in options and before hitting the Run DSDT Patcher button make sure to change the destination as Snow Drive (Where you Installed the Snow Leopard).

Step Four). Now put all the “kext file” you downloaded earlier and you can also add yours if you needed into /Snow/Extra/Extensions, and copy the Extensions folder in Extra to the desktop, and drag it over “Kext Utility” which you downloaded. Kext utility will repair your permission and generate a new Extension.mkext. Move that Extensions folder and the extension.mkext back to /Snow/Extra

Step Five). Now launch EFiStudio and look for your Video Card through the drop down menu. Click add device and you will see some alphanumeric numbers, copy these numbers. Add the following code to your com.apple.boot.plist in /Snow/Extra.

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1280x1024x32 </string>

<key>device-properties</key>

<string>Alphanumeric code you generated with EFiStudio</string>

Save and Exit…
Step Six). Final Step put the SMBios.plist into /Snow/Extra.

Step Seven). Must for those who added any driver kext to Snow/System/Library/Extension, This step will rebuild the Extensions.mkext cache while booted in Snow Leopard. Reboot and go to Single User mode by typing this flag.

-x32 –s

When you are in the console, type the following command

/sbin/fsck -fy
/sbin/mnt -uw /
kextcache -v 1 -t -m /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext /System/Library/Extensions/

Some Quick fixes are if you are stuck on Waiting for DSMOS then simply delete the DSMOS kext in Snow/Extra/Extensions but make sure you must have FakeSMC kext.

If you are stuck on RTL8169E error then Disable Hardware LAN in your BIOS and boot again. We are collecting and making a list of Snow leopard supported drivers so stick with us.

If you have an IDE drive or your laptop contains IDE drive then Install AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext by Netkas to make your ATA/IDE work in Snow Leopard. This kext is useful for ICH6/7/8/9/10 with ahci disabled and for lappies too. This kext also helps IOATAFamily related error causing Kernel Panic.
