MuscleNerd, iPhone Dev Team member, has managed to extract all data from the bootrom of iPhone 4S baseband. Musclenerd posted a proof image, with raw data of iPhone 4S baseband on his twitter handle. This means iPhone 4S jailbreak and unlock could be very close, now they can work with the baseband with complete freedom to find an exploit.

Now we all wonder what happened to the baseband of the iPhone 4 during all this time? If you remember the first baseband of the iPhone 4, the 1.59.00 was unlocked with Ultrasn0w, but after that there was nothing, it seemed that Apple had closed all the doors, but the game starts again, we will keep you informed.

At first it was thought that Siri was meant to run on a single A5 processor, Hence the Dev Team said it was not so easy to port to iPhone 4, because to install it on an A4 would have to use Apple’s code, which is illegal. Musclenerd just released ultrasn0w, latest version of ultrasn0w is compatible with iOS 4.3.1 Recall that iPhone Dev Team already released untethered solution for iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak last Sunday, but  ultrasn0w wasn’t  not compatible with latest version of iOS.

This new version of ultrasn0w will unlock baseband 4.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04 and 06.15.00 for iPhon3 3GS and baseband 01.59.00 for iPhone 4.

Instructions to install ultrasn0w using cydia

Step One : Press to launch Cydia Installer from your Springboard.

Step Two : Press to select the Manage tab at the bottom of the screen.

Step Three : Press to select the large Sources button

Step Four : Press the Edit button at the top right of the screen.

Step Five  : Press the Add button at the top left of the screen.

Step Six : Enter http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com as the source url and press the Add Source button.

Note:ultrasn0w is spelled with a zero, not the letter “o”.

Step Seven : Once the source has been added press the large Return to Cydia button.

Step Eight : Press the Done button at the top right of the screen.

Step Nine : Press to select http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com/ from the list of user entered sources.

Step Ten : Press to select ultrasn0w from the list of packages.

Step Eleven : Press the Install button at the top right of the screen.

Step Twelve : Press the Confirm button at the top right of the screen.

Step Thirteen : After installation completes successfully press the reboot.

Step Fourteen : Now press the Home button then power off and power on the iPhone. You do this by holding down the power button for 3 seconds then moving the power slider that appears to the right. Press the power button again to turn on the phone.

Step Fifteen : You should now be able to insert the SIM of your choice!

iPhone Dev team member, Musclenerd just hinted that they are working on iPhone baseband downgrade hack. Musclenerd replied to one of his follower regarding their priorities toward peoples stuck on baseband  5.14.02, 5.15.04 and 5.16.00 Apparently iPhone dev team found a solution, that will allow users to downgrade their iPhone’s baseband back to 05.12.01, 05.13.04 from baseband 06.15.00

MICGadget, published some images of iPhone 4 64 GB, internal test units. Some of the test units are available for sale in the Hong Kong black market, that clearly seem to prototypes of a 64 GB iPhone 4. MuscleNerd released  an official statement regarding iPhone unlock. iPhone Dev team postponed the release of ultrasn0w unlock until Apple releases iOS 4.3 or iOS 4.2.5  Sherif Hashim found an exploitable baseband crash that could bring an unlock for basebands 05.14.02 and 02.10.04 back in November. Very little has been heard since then.

MuscleNerd just tweeted to all his followers that Ultrasn0w unlock is on it’s way and you’ll get rid of iOS 4.2. baseband 5.14.02 and iOS 4.2.1 baseband 5.15.04 after this Sunday. Musclenerd tweeted “ Good progress today…everything is on track for updated ultrasn0w by Sunday/Funday at the latest (longer for iPhone4!) “

Apparently, the latest Ultrasn0w update will work with iPhone 3G and 3GS and it may take long time to release iPhone 4 integration. Apple released iOS 4.2.1 and iPhone Dev team released Redsn0w 0.9.4b4 to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 Besides a successful jailbreak you can not unlock at this time. As you know, an exploit in the baseband (modem firmware) is required to develop iPhone unlock. Sheriff Hashim already announced that he found such an exploit. The iPhone Dev Team confirmed in their recent blog post, that an unlock for the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS is expected this week. iPhone 4 unlock appears more and more difficult.

• iPhone 3G and 3GS unlockers will be covered by our upcoming unlock.  Stay away from any updates to Apple FW until our official release and you’ll be okay.  Just stay away from all Apple IPSWs
• iPhone4 unlockers are not left out in the cold.  @sherif_hashim has found some very promising avenues to pursue.  Those will be explored as soon as possible after all the 4.2 madness.
