Downgrade iOS 4.1 to 4.0.1 for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS 3G

Apple released iOS 4.1 GM for developers, latest version of iOS features several improvements like resolution of several bugs including the proximity sensor iPhone 4 and some new functions like High Dynamic Range Photos, Ability to upload videos in HD on WiFi, Rent TV programs to watch streaming, Game Center and lots more. Final build of iOS 4.1 will be available in public on 8th of September and after that Apple is going to stop signing iOS 4.0.2 signature files.

That means that if you have a iPhone 4 / 3GS you cannot restore any firmware other than iOS 4.1 If you guys updated to iOS 4.1 and wanna go back to iOS 4.0.2 / 4.0.1 here is the step by step guide to downgrade your iPhone 4 / 3GS iOS 4.1 to 4.0.1 / 4.0.2 or below.

Note : You are eligible only if you saved your SHSH to Cydia Server before the release of iOS 4.1 via Cydia “make my life easier” button.

The process is very simple all you have to do is to add Saurik’s Server address to your system hosts file. This trick make iTunes thinks it is talking to Apple, it is talking to Cydia instead while the restoring process. Doing this will allow iTunes to access signatures already stored by Cydia “on file” feature. In simple words this duplicates the functionality exposed by Apple’s signature server, except using “on file” results rather than live request.

Note:

This process is only for those who saved their SHSH to Cydia Server already.
Read the whole process two-three times before starting the process.

How to Edit and Save Hosts file in Windows

Open Notepad with Administrative privileges by clicking Start, All Programs,Accessories, and then right-click Notepad and select to open as Administrator.

Now browse to (C:/Windows / System32 / drivers / etc) in Notepad and open the hosts file, and add the following entry to the bottom of the file.

74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com <————

Now you navigate to files menu and save the hosts file. By doing this you changed the communication server from Apple to Sauriks Server, because your ECID is on that server. Now you can put your iPhone in DFU mode to restore back to to OS 4.0.2 or lower. Follow our previous guide Downgrade iPhone 3G / 3GS

How to Edit and Save Hosts file in Mac OS X

Navigate to Finder, Click to select Go to Folder… from the Go menu and Enter /etc into the input field and click the Go button.
Now look for hosts file, right click on hosts file and open with Text Edit, and add the following entry to the bottom of the file.

74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com <————

Now save the file and click on Save As.
Because Text Editor can’t save your system files, here comes the tricky part, in save as windows use the following settings, take a close look at the following image.

Uncheck the “ If no extension is provide, use .txt “ and then press the save button.

A host file will be appear on your Desktop, just drag and drop to /etc and follow the onscreen instructions.

By doing this you changed the communication server from Apple to Sauriks Server, because your ECID is on that server. Now you can put your iPhone in DFU mode to restore to any of the previous OS. Follow our previous guide Downgrade iPhone 3G / 3GS

I know you are familiar with Chinese iPhone clones supports Dual Sim, but this is for real iPhone 4. usbfever.com added an interesting case for iPhone 4 in their catalog that allows using two Sims in one device! iPhone 4 Dual Sim adapter case isn’t beautiful to see but certainly is functional! Jobs Confirms to Fix Slow iOS 4 iPhone 3G issue

This really is good news for iPhone 3G owners! as you know the slow speed problem with the iPhone 3G running on the latest version firmware of iOS 4. It doesn’t matters if iPhone is jailbreak or not, the experience of using iPhone 3G IOS 4 is horrible, but it seems this is going to end soon.

According to 9 to 5 Mac a user has written a complaint to Steve Jobs about the poor performance of his iPhone 3G with the new operating system version and said he has waited patiently for the last two updates (4.0.1 and 4.0.2) to see if the problem was resolved without for a solution. Jobs reply could not be more clear and concise.

Software update coming soon.

This means that we will soon have a software update that will fix the performance problems of the 3G iPhone that many suffer, will the version 4.1? Let us hope that is not too long to make it available for everyone.

FaceTime Mod : Improves Video by Increasing FPS

My3G : FaceTime Over 3G is finally a reality!

As expected FaceTime is hacked to work over 3G instead of WiFi with in first 24 hours of iPhone 4 jailbreak release. Credits goes to RockYourPhone team who updated a package named My3G over the RockYourPhone store. My3G make Apps believe that they are on WiFi instead of 3G very similar to 3G Unrestrictor available in Cydia. My3G allows you to go around the iPhone’s limitations while on 3G/EDGE like no VoIP, no downloading of files bigger than 10MB from the AppStore or iTunes Store, low quality YouTube videos and no Sling player. It allows those things by tricking applications into believing they are on WiFi, even though they are on 3G or EDGE.

Note : My3G is available to download from RockYourPhone price of $ 3.99. At the moment RockMy3G is available in RockYourApp Store only, and we may expect a Cydia release with in 2-6 hours because package is already submitted to Modmyi repo.

iPhone 4 White Delayed Once Again

Apple has announced today with an official statement that the iPhone version 4 will continue to be unavailable for a while. ” The new iPhone 4 white model produced more challenging than expected, because of what will be available later this year. The availability of the most famous black iPhone 4 remains unchanged. ” There is no specific date mentioned, just “later this year.” The black iPhone is easily available.

Engadget already pointed with this article about the difficulties that may be responsible for this delay. Free Bumper Costs $ 175 Million to Apple

On 16 July 2010, at a press conference, Steve Jobs announced that Apple would provide all iPhone 4 owners with a free case to help solve the antenna issue and a refund to those users who had already purchased a Bumper. The free case offer would be valid until 30 September 2010, when Apple would reevaluate the situation. Free bumper solution is not permanent solution to Antenagate problem, though a good first step.

However, in the shareholders meeting Apple, confirmed that free Bumpers going to cost $ 175 million. If you think about the cost of a bumper, surely Apple will not cost much more than $ 1, after all it’s a piece of plastic.

This translates into a loss of $ 175 million in the account balance the next Q4, but seeing that earned $ 15.7 billion, a loss of $ 175 million does not mean much for Apple. In turn, all customers will have happy and may fix the problem antennagate meantime.

Does the name Sheriff Hashim remind you of anything? Well, if it doesn’t have a look here. Sheriff Hashim, is an iPhone hacker who managed to find a new exploit for baseband 05.12.01. Sheriff once again rocked with a new discovery, lets you activate your iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G without the official SIM card. This new discovery is very useful for those who got shipped unlocked iPhone 4 and still looking for jailbreak / unlock. All you need is a phone book card, usually used to transfer contacts from one phone to another number. You can bu phone book card from your local mobile repair stores or e-bay, amazon etc.

Needless to mention if you remove the SIM card your phone will be locked again, but hey you can use your iPhone as iPod until a new solution available in the wild.
