  • Problem : I got stuck in "Greenpois0n initialized", retried, re updated. It remains the same.
  • Solution : open "terminal", type SUDO, open Greenpois0n as "Show package contents", go MacOS folder & drag greenpois0n to terminal & hit enter and check the logs in terminal. / Via iSurenix /
  • Problem : My iPhone / iPod is showing blank (black) screen after jailbreak, iPhone / iPod is still in DFU mode after applying jailbreak.
  • Solution : Leave your iDevice for two minutes, now press and hold both power and home button at the same time for 10-15 seconds until your iPhone / iPod boot as normal.
  • Problem : Greenpois0n loader is crashing when I install Cydia, I am unable to install cydia via greenpois0n loader.
  • Solution : For those having trouble getting Cydia via the GP Loader, just let redsn0w install it (don’t choose the Monte option) / Via MuscleNerd /

After I jailbreak using Greenpois0n, all my preset apps (camera, AppStore, Settings, Camera, Itune, Contact, YouTube, etc) all disappeared. When I look in spotlight, I get URL unavailable, and I can not access texts or phonebook to call out anyone, but I can get incoming calls. Phone is Jailbroken, using Cydia, and all, just those other features are not working.

What can I do to fix?

    Thanks!!!

After a jailbreak with greenposion (4.2.1) and a cydia install with redsnow, my home button doesn’t work very well. I’d say it works about half the time. whether I’m trying to close an app, open the multi-tasking, or unlock the pod, it almost always takes 2-3 firm presses of the button. I had a problem similar with my last jailbreak, but after a restore I did it 100 times without incident. What in the jailbreak or app downloads could be doing this?

  6. Alec February 12, 2011 Reply

I downloaded it, and got to the instructions (hold home for 2, etc)
i tried it once and i didnt do it right, so i disconnected it then i powered it off again. then i did it again nothing happened, then i tried again, and in the middle of the 3rd time a box popped up on the toolbar saying “dfu instaled on device” so i finished the 3rd process. and now i cant turn it on.
(when the box popped up on the toolbar nothing happened to the greenposion box)

Hi, what about iphone 3g. I’m using windows 7. Tried to use Redsn0w 0.9.6 b4, but redsn0w doesn’t recognize the specified IPSW firmware (iphone1,2_4.2,1_8C148_Custom_Restore).
Tried Greenpois0n, it doesn’t recognize my phone (DFU mood).
    Pls help.

I jailbroke my iPad using the greenpoison exploit. I also updated the iBooks app back in December to version 2.1. I was able to read books that have apple’s DRM on them with iOS 3.2.2. Now when I updated to iOS 4.2.1 I can’t open the DRM books anymore. It gives me an error that says “There is a problem with the configuration of our iPad. Please restore with iTunes and reinstall iBooks.” I have tried reinstalling iBooks a couple times with no avail. I don’t want to unjailbreak my iPad just to read these books. Can anyone help with this problem?

    Thank You

@ Hairlessheart: Great hack, worked so far on iphone4! Loader app appears and installs Cydia – BUT: cydia doesn´t show. All I could do was to remove Loader app.

  14. batmandela February 8, 2011 Reply

Regarding missing Apps: it seems as if they are actually ON the iPad – just not showing up… My Springboard crashed and while in Safe Mode the Apps magically appeared.

Am continuing to uninstall all JB Apps to see which is the culprit.

  15. batmandela February 8, 2011 Reply

Jailbreak GP 4.2.1 went really smoothly on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPad.

Problem now is that my iPad keeps ‘losing’ (legal/paid-for) apps after syncing with iTunes. I’ve tried uninstalling all the Cydia apps (Overboard, MultiFlow etc..) that might be affecting it, but to no avail.

Only about 40 of 100 synced Apps show up. I’ve rebooted, re-synced a number of times.

BTW: Last time I synced, a bunch of White icons appeared on my iPad: AdSheet; AdSheet -ipad; DataActivation; FieldTest; iOS Diagnostics, iAd… wtf?!

    Anyone else had issues?

    Thanks for the help.

I try to jailbreak iPod 2g MC model on 4.2.1 and greenpois0n rc5 b3. It gets to the white blank screen then says jailbreak failed and reboots normally. Then it say to “quit restate and retry” in the button in the center. Any reason how to fix or what is happening. Tried over 10 times. Did both my iPhone 4’s and it worked first try for both then tried the iPod and still failed.

  19. Randy12 February 7, 2011 Reply

If your screen goes blank and you can’t get it back by pushing the home/sleep button you will have to do a restore via itues. Make sure you are running TinyU and the sever is running. Once you do the restore don’t even bother trying to kick it out of recovery, hold down the sleep and home button for 2 sec and you should get a black screen, once this happens you are in DFU Mode, now run Greenposi0n, most likely Cydia will not load so turn the phone off and run Redsn0w 0.9.6b4, now you can load Cydia. If you get stuck hit this link its a great help. Video tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6dAHvBtnrc

This post kept saying NOT TO CHOOSE INSTALLING THE IPSW after jailbreak with greenpoison, but the problem i had was that the redsnow only showed the “browse” button for installing ipsw. so, no direct button to just install the cydia. help please! :(

I’ve an iPhone 3GS 16GB with the new bootrom, firmware version 4.2.1 and baseband 06.15.00. Here is what I’ve done to jailbreak and unlock this iphone on Mac OS X Snow Leopard with Intel CPU to use anywhere in the world.

    1. Restore stock firmware 4.2.1 on itunes 10
    2. run Greenpois0n RC5 revised edition 2 on Mac and jailbreak iphone
    3. run Redsn0w 0.9.7b5 and install cydia
    4. install ultrasn0w 1.2 to unlock baseband 06.15.00
    5. Voila! It’s jailbroken and unlocked!

It seems though the iPhone crashes sometimes when you turn off and restart, it would reboot twice before working normally. Since this RC5 is still in the early phase of release these bugs are expected.

You might also consider disabling the custom animated boot logo back to apple boot logo.

Hi. I ran GP on my iPhone 4 and everything when great, except Cydia installation, so I installed from Redsn0w. Everything working great now.. The problem is with my 3GS, I tried same steps and GP does not complete. GP starts, but it ends up saying (Giving Up).

I had to force restart the phone and it gets back to springboard normally, but not jailbroken. I just tried twice.

    I am completely stuck.

Goes like this: I have an IPhone 3GS running 4.2.1 with the Ipad Baseband 06.15.00
When I try to restore firmware with itunes I get the error 1015 and it’s useless trying to jailbreak with Greenpoison because I just get a bunch of errors on the screen (probably because I can’t restore to the official 4.2.1.

    Please help me somebody!

  35. Hairlessheart February 5, 2011 Reply

Greenpois0n completes, but phones just reboots and there’s no loader icon!

    This happened over and over with me. First with RC1, GP would say ‘complete’, but nothing would have worked. With RC2, instead of saying ‘complete’, it said ‘Failed’. I managed to get it to finally work by doing this;

    1. Connect iphone to computer. Turn it off in usual way and close iTunes.
    2. Open “terminal”, type SUDO, open Greenpois0n as “Show package contents”, go MacOS folder & drag greenpois0n to terminal & hit enter. This will show some logs and will open the Greenpois0n program.
    3. Follow the GP instructions as normal. I kept holding the home button at the final stage until GP finally said complete. This may be overkill, but it seemed to work. As GP is running, you’ll see lots of logs appearing in the terminal window.
    4. The screen on the iPhone will go white temporarily, the go lack and lots of logs will appear.
    5. It will reboot a couple of times, with the animated GP logo.
    6. Success!

Hope this helps anyone who was having the same issues I was.

    Cheers

  36. Atish February 5, 2011 Reply

But are there still any issues after jailbreaking with the rc5_2 version that remain from the original rc5 version released yesterday.
And what if I have a tethered 3GS that is unlocked right now but if I use gp rc5_2 will I have to unlock again and more importantly will it unlock after untethereing using gp since someone said it won’t still unlock even after the device is untethered

  37. ReconTopher February 5, 2011 Reply

This method does work, I’m iphone 4 4.2.1 with the 03.10.01 firmware.

I did greenpois0n rc5 & then loaded Cydia via redsn0w’s latest as described above.

  38. doodmar February 5, 2011 Reply

    PROBLEM:

After putting into DFU mode and GP says “Complete!” and iDevice is still in black DFU screen – Loader icon not on springboard.

    SOLUTION:

Connect to the internet on your mac computer and try again.

Notes: My mac hackintosh laptop’s wireless kext doesn’t work, so when I was trying to jailbreak it, I wasn’t connected to the internet and had tons of problems. Connecting to the internet solved all the issues.

  39. alex February 5, 2011 Reply

I used greenpois0n, but now i am stuck in recovery mode, and i have tried to use tinyumbrella but that didnt work, and i have also tried to do an itunes restore, but that fails and brings me back to the screen with the itunes logo and the usb cable.

  40. Ben February 5, 2011 Reply

Yeah, that did me no good.
I have the same problem, my loader wont show Cydia so i tried doing the redsn0w jailbreak afterwards, only thing is, it stops during “exploiting with limera1n” and just restarts the phone… WTF!!! Wheres my Cydia??

  41. adam February 5, 2011 Reply

    Thanks for this.

I had problems with GP getting stuck on initializing. I tried 3 times with no luck. Then manually put it in dfu mode before running GP and that did the trick. Might try that.

Also, had the problem of loader not having anything inside it. Running the newest redsnow fixed that for me. I now have Cydia.

  42. vera February 4, 2011 Reply

if your Greenpoison loader is stuck just install Cydia using Redsn0w 0.9.6 and works like a charm!!! Thanks everyone. Ps dont install the 4.2.1 ipsw…

  43. Dangles February 4, 2011 Reply

Do i need shsh saved for the redsnow route to install cydia? Got an IPad that came with 4.2.1 installed so obviously no blobs.

  44. iHacker February 4, 2011 Reply

Here are good instructions for using redsn0w:
    http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=12946&laid=

Important things to keep in mind:

    1) Use the latest version of redsn0w: 0.9.7.b6.
    2) Use redsn0w AFTER you have jailbroken with greenpois0n.
    3) SKIP STEP TWO in the redsn0w directions linked to above. That is, do NOT reinstall the iOS firmware, as it will overwrite the greenpois0n jailbreak.
    4) Do NOT use the “Jailbreak Monte (untethered)” option. Just select “Install Cydia”. greenpois0n handles all the untethering stuff.

Somehow, using redns0w this way installs Cydia without screwing with the greenpois0n untethered jailbreak.

    Good luck!

  45. Ganesh February 4, 2011 Reply

It worked!!! Now I have untethered jailbreaked iPhone 3GS.

  46. Nicolas February 4, 2011 Reply

This works only on Intel based Mac correct?

  47. SkrabakL February 4, 2011 Reply

I got stuck in “Greenpois0n initialized”, retried, re updated. It remains the same.
Just download macports & libusb to fix libusb:error which you could see in the terminal if you use method up in article
