Jailbreak iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 iOS 4.1 With Limera1n

Geohot has just released Limera1n, the new tool that allows you to run the jailbreak on the third and fourth generation of iPhone and iPod Touch, that is, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 3G and 4G. Limera1n jailbreak is available for Windows, while Mac and Linux versions to come later.
iSpazio says “ GeoHot’s move was crazy, but smart at the same time: the only thing I really wanted the attacker was not so much the issue his tool, but to force the Chronic Dev Team to use his exploits in GreenPoison. GeoHot adds, Apple is already aware of his exploits, because despite not having resolved the bootrom for the time being,has made it impossible to apply all iBoot.
Requirements :
- iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 running on iOS 4.1
- Windows PC
- Limera1n Download (Download Here)

Instructions to use Limera1n :
1. Launch the limera1n application and connect your iPhone to your PC and click the big " make it ra1n " button.
2. Your device will boot in to Recovery Mode automatically.
This new tool, unlike the others, also requires the enter into DFU Mode: To do so just follow the simple instructions that will appear inside the box.
3. Done! your iPhone is jailbroken and ready for use.
Now start Limera1n app from your iPhone spring board, and install Cydia.

To all with the “no limeRa1n icon” problem. I tried everthing i read. Then i did Reset->”Erase all Content and Settings” and after that magically LimeRa1n icon appears in the springboard
totally messed my iphone up, wont let me restore my iphone to its orignal self……..

i have no internet connection

i jailbroke my iphone 3gs with limera1n but after i finished all those steps mentioned above, it says NO SERVICE and in the settings-general-there is no option for carriers. what do i do?
I got the same problem of not being able to lock to my operator after jailbreaking my 3Gs running on 4.1 . Jailbreak works perfectly but phone gets stuck at `searching` for a network. Only after restoring to defaults and unjailbreaking was I able to get a lock to my gsm operator.
If it s a lock-unlock issue we re facing after jailbreaking, how come my 3gs works problem free when restored to default IOS 4.1 through itunes ?

yeah, same problem as @oldie, @threeeye, and @scream. everything worked perfectly until i switched out my sim card. it asked for the new pin, unlocked sucessfully, showed a bar, but no network name and then kept searching for a while until it finally said no service…help on this would be greatly appreciated. i’ve unlocked other, older iphones using the same sim card on the same network, so i feel like it shouldn’t be a problem.

when i turned on the update 4.1 from my current 3.0.3 IOS, my 3GS iphone gone to jail blocked. i tried snowbreeze but it didn’t work. then i tried Limera1n which didn’t work for me as well
when i connect the phone to the pc, itune comes up to a message recovery mode and tries to restore the setting. but it failed. please tell me wht i need to do to unlock and jail block my phone in details. please let me know which tool needs to be used.

for those who has network ‘searching’ problem, i guess your phone has locked!! wait for (hopefully)november for unlock tool release! now you can use your iphone as an itouch:)) like me..
I tried the mac version limera1n for my iphone 3G (IOS 4.1)
- The limera!n asked me to reset and then release the power button and THEN asked me to retry. On the other hand, the itune said “ITune detected an iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this iphone before it can be used with iTune

No luck here. My iPhone 4 running 4.1 apparently gets limera1n stuck at the “in DFU mode … wait” step. Tried several times–Geohot’s app gets stuck at that step every time.
My jailbreak worked without a hitch and then I unlocked the phone using ultrasn0w as described before. I have a new out of the box iphone 4 with 4.1 installed from new.
Did someone find a fix yet ?
One more with the “no limeRa1n icon” problem. I’ve tried everything mentioned here – updated iTunes, ran limera1n as admin, tried it with iTunes running and not running (which should it be?), restarted iPod (3G 8GB MC086LL) multiple times. Every time limeRa1n reports that it has completed successfully, but there’s no new icon on the springboard.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

everything went smoothly until the finding network bit came up…

Where shall I start. First I have successfully jailbroken my IPhone 4 OS4.1. I also successfully downloaded mywi from Cydia and used it. Third I downloaded my3g from Cydia. This is where the problem occurred for me. Once my3g is installed the springboard wanted to relaunch, I press the relaunch button and then I get the apple logo loop. I was able to get it out of this loop by restoring my IPhone. I then tried the entire process again and once again after downloading my3g, springboard attempted to relaunch again, and as before the dreaded apple logo loop again.
I restored the iphone again and am now waiting now for some input on how to avoid the apple loop. I’m guessing the springboard has something to do with it.
I had the “no network” thing after cydia installation. Rebooted and it sorted it out… try a cold reset.
will this ever support ipod touch 2g
Sorry for not mentioning this in my earlier post…the device is 3GS(was 3.1.3. with 5.12.01 prior to updating) and i don’t need unlock.

I jailbreaked my iTouch 3g 4.1 and followed ALL instructions (limera1n’s and yours), but i still haven’t got the limera1n app at the SpringBoard

To save a lot of you people some serious headaches…regarding the problem with no Cydia icon showing up after install…in my case the problem was with the “Categories” app downloaded from Cydia. I had it before on earlier version of iOS and Cydia was in a subfolder. Also all of the other apps that used to be in folders were not showing on springboard.
After JB and installing Cydia it didn’t show up. However, it was installed and i found it via search. Then i began installing apps that i was using on old iOS and as i came across Categories i noticed Cydia being disabled in “Hidden icons”…all of the other apps were there too. I just enabled them and now everything is OK!

I tried Limera1n for many times on my iPhone3GS 4.1( old bootroom(8B117) MC model with Baseband: 05.14.02)
It Shows Jailbreak successful but there is NO LIMERA1N Icon …
Already updated Itunes to Latest version..restarted many times..but still the same issue….
Worked like a charm. After installing Cydia from Limera1n I reboot and the icon for Cydia appeared. 3GS iPhone now on 4.1.
When I attempted to jailbreak, the app appeared without the “rain” logo and when I tried to open it, it opened for about 3 seconds and then returned to the main screen. I’ve tried all suggestions; upgrade to itunes 10, i ran limera1n as administrator and still nothing. I have an empty app that I can’t delete…please help!
Hey, so I carefully followed the instructions to jailbreak my 3GS with os4.1 and Cydia installed correctly I guess. But the problem is, when I try to install stuff from Cydia, and it goes to the black screen, it gives me error messages, but acts like something installed and restrarts springboard and when I go to springboard nothing is there. Plus, it won’t let me install other sources either, I had to restore my iPhone from backup. Can someone help me please, my email address is monsta70767@yahoo.com-thanks and be blessed.

I have a iphone 3gs, and i have a problem so i should restore it… anyone knows if i can jalibreak and unlock after restore it with the iOS 4.1(now i have iOS 4.0, with the old bootrom)? or i have to restore it in a special way, like the iphone 4g?

JB took a while to be available but it was worth the wait.
PS:
After Jailbreak install Cydia then reboot your Phone. Otherwise you will not see the Cydia on your springboard.
Works for my 3GS new boot from 4.0.1 to 4.1

For people having issues with the limera1n app not showing up make sure youve updated itunes and follow the instructions right on time and release the home button as soon as it goes into dfu mode
Thanks geohot! And thanks to IcySlayer559. It worked on my 3GS new bootrom after following your post. I just had to open itunes before running limera1n, then restart it after installing cydia (because cydia didn’t appear at first). Hope it works for everyone else too.

3gs old bootrom 4.1……anyone have the same problem?
I have iphone 3gs and it still searching for my carrier. When I go in general and about it tells me my carrier but it keeps searching. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

yes u can just go to cydia, sources, add repo666.ultrasn0w.com and install ultrasn0w. you got your self an jailbroken and unlocked phone.
it finally worked after i upgraded my itunes to latest version yeahhh….
hey icyslayer559 what is the step you did in itunes ? i did not get that part because iam having that trouble
i own a 3GS MC model iphone which has the new bootrom. i had a similar problem however the limera1n app appeared fine, it was the cydia app which was not visible. upon rebooting the device the cydia app was visible, and so i was able to remove limera1n.
other than that the actual jailbreak process was seamless.
if you have similar issues i would recommend rebooting the device, and trying again. this jailbreak works.
It works very well with my iPhone 4 (iOS 4.1).

did not work on my 3gs 4.1 outabox. everything went as mentioned above but no limera1n app started on the iphone at all. im using limera1n rc 1 beta 4. any help

just follow 1 simple step before opening limera1n.exe on windows
just on itunes before opening limera1n.exe
i did that and limera1n appears after my jailbreak

Restored to 4.1 on iPhone 4 using firmware umbrella. Baseband remained at 1.59. Performed Limera1n jailbreak with no problem but no cydia on springboard. Restarted the phone three times and still no luck. Going back to 4.0.1 and waiting for the next jailbreak. Thanks for the hard work.
So does it work? Really work? It’s a beta for the 3GS so it must be buggy like his blackrain was loaded with bugs and killed many iPhone os’s

This is really Good news for ios 4.1 user but still there is not good response from over all iphone user, some user find problem and its only available for Windows user so waiting for some more time to jailbreak my device.
