Guide to Update iPhone 4 to iOS 4.1 While Preserving Baseband 1.59.00

9 September 2010 by Vinay 13 Comments

Earlier today we told you that iPod 4 jailbreak and iOS 4.1 jailbreak development is in progress. According to iPhone hackers chronic dev team (posixninja, pod2g) manage to achieve iOS 4.1 jailbreak exploit. But no one talked about baseband exploit to unlock latest baseband. So we strictly advise you to stick with iOS 4.0.1 if you care for your unlock. Fortunately Notcom, guy behind firmware umbrella discovered a method to preserve your iOS 4.0.1 / 4.0.2 baseband 1.59.00 while updating to iOS 4.1 Notcom released the latest version of Firmware Umbrella with this useful feature. You can download the latest version of firmware umbrella from official site http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/

Note

  1. You need to have your iOS 4.0.1 SHSH saved on Cydia or locally.
  2. This will only work while Apple is signing 4.0.2 SHSH requests.
  3. You can downgrade to iOS 4.0.1 anytime, only if you satisfy first point mentioned above.

Step One : Close iTunes, Skype, Messengers or any other background application.

Step Two : Launch Tiny Umbrella and connect your iPhone 4

Step Five : Cross your fingers and wait for iTunes to end up with error 1004. This is perfectly normal and has to do with the baseband not being updated.

Step Six : Simply ‘Kick Device Out of Recovery’

    I guess I goofed?

    Dummy here.

Followed the instructions above (thought it was okay to upgrade??) and proceeded to upgrade to 4.0.1. Now I don’t have my beloved Cydia anymore. I guess I’m not sure how to get Cydia back on my iPhone 4.

Did I mess up? I am also not interested in the unlock feature, I just want to be JB. Is there any hope for me? Do I have to wait for the new JB to happen?

Note: I saved my SHSH to Cydia and to Tiny Umbrella.

Help from anyone to a dummy would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have bought a new iphone 4 which has a serial number of **039***** which means my iphone belongs to the 39th week of 2010
before I open it, I want to be sure that the iphone is not 4.1
Can you guys tell me that what is the week of your iphone and its OS so maybe some of you guys have the same week but with the 4.0.2 ios?
And If it was already on 4.1 with the new base-band, can I restore it to 4.1 with Tiny Umbrella to the previous base-band?

Can someone confirm that this method will preserve the baseband? I dont want to test it out and discover it doesnt work.
