Jailbreak iOS 4.0.2 for iPhone 3G, iPod 2G with Redsn0w

As you know that Apple released iOS 4.0.2 in response of jailbreakme jailbreak, but they didn’t fixed the redsn0w exploit for iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G. So you guys an jailbreak your iPhone 3G and iPod 2G wit last release of Redsn0w 0.9.5-b5 beta. This will also hacktivate your iPhone3G at 4.0.2 if you haven’t already been activated by iTunes. Install ultrasn0w if you need a carrier unlock (and in the USA, remember to turn off 3G mode in Settings→General→Network).

Step One : Create a folder on desktop and name it whatever you want, in the following article we named it iHackintosh. Now put all your downloaded files in the iHackintosh folder. Now connect your iPhone to the computer and launch RedSn0w from iHackintosh folder.

Step Two : Now here comes the tricky part, when redsn0w ask you to select firmware, browse to iOS 4.0 ipsw instead of iOS 4.0.2

Step Two : Click the Open button to continue.

Step Three : In next Window check the Install Cydia option. You can select / unselect more advanced options like verbose boot, multitasking, wallpaper etc. Once you selected all required options click on next button

Step Four : Now turn off your iPhone but make sure it is still plugged in to USB port. If you satisfies this term then click next to proceed the next step is to put your iPhone in DFU mode.

Step Five : To put your iPhone in to DFU mode follow the onscreen instructions as follows Hold the Power button for 3 seconds, Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds, then release the Power button and continuing holding the Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode.

Step Six : If all goes well, and you put your iPhone in DFU mode successfully then the following screen will appear otherwise you will be prompted to do from Step Five.

Step Seven : That’s it after 5 to 8 minute of process you will get your hands on a Jailbreaked iPhone.

So picked up the fw for 4.0 with currently installed 4.0.2 .. everything worked just perfect. Now just I’m curious to see if it got faster or not as I’m seriously fighting with the speed of my phone after upgrading on 4.0

However, the signal only shows 1 bar and when trying to connect to the carrier I ger a no service message.

I have tried this several times, and now would like to downgrade, but I am not a unix guru and I cannot figure out how to get it done. Like how do I set my directory to usr>lib and copy the stuff there?

You have to have iTunes 9.2.1 to install 4.0.x as far as I know. You also have to have redsn0w 0.9.5-b5 beta, to perform the jailbreak. And if you installed 4.0.2 you still have to point redsn0w to a 4.0 final release, which must also be on your computer.

I do not get a carrier signal after the jailbreak, so I want to downgrade to 3.2.2 if I can figure out how.
