Step One : Create a folder on desktop and name it whatever you want, in the following article we named it iHackintosh. Now put all your downloaded files in the iHackintosh folder. Now connect your iPhone to the computer and launch RedSn0w from iHackintosh folder.
Step Two : Now here comes the tricky part, when redsn0w ask you to select firmware, browse to iOS 4.0 ipsw instead of iOS 4.01
Step Two : Click the Open button to continue.
Step Three : In next Window check the Install Cydia option. You can select / unselect more advanced options like verbose boot, multitasking, wallpaper etc. Once you selected all required options click on next button.
Step Four : Now turn off your iPhone but make sure it is still plugged in to USB port. If you satisfies this term then click next to proceed the next step is to put your iPhone in DFU mode.![]()
Step Five : To put your iPhone in to DFU mode follow the onscreen instructions as follows Hold the Power button for 3 seconds, Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds, then release the Power button and continuing holding the Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode.
Step Six : If all goes well, and you put your iPhone in DFU mode successfully then the following screen will appear otherwise you will be prompted to do from Step Five.
Step Seven : That’s it after 5 to 8 minute of process you will get your hands on a Jailbreaked iPhone.

You said “when redsn0w ask you to select firmware, browse to iOS 4.0 ipsw instead of iOS 4.01″ then in this case the actual firmware in iphone would be 4.0 and not being 4.01, isn’t it?
Or how the firmware of iphone will become 4.01?
Please advise.
tks,
Hi
I am using a new i phone 3gs which i bought last week frm Qatar n it accepts any sim card so i guess its ‘unlocked’. unfortunately wen i connected the phone to itunes for the very first time, it asked me if i wat an upgrade to ios 4.0 n i accepted it, which turned out to be a big mistake cos i was not aware of the ‘jailbreakin’ process.. i read some blogs n all n wat i cud find was that i need to have some SHSH saved before upgradin..
is this methos u explained applicable for me?
Paiboon ur not Restoring with 4.0 Firmware u will restore ur device wid 4.0.1 but after that u have to apply this trick for jailbreaking ur device 3g iphone Redsnow will not recognize 4.0.1 but it will recognize 4.0
thats all
No it wouldn’t be the same firmare (4.0) simply because Redsn0w does not use itunes to restore the device. in other words: The firmware you have currently installed on the device is only being modified by the Redsn0w program and adding Cydia onto it. So if you were to select a 3.0 firmware in Redsn0w it would give you a 3.0 jailbreak with 4.0 as the actual firmware on the device. Not sure if that is even possible(because of incompatibility) but it seems logical.
Im sorry spelling correction: 4.01 would be the currently installed firmware.
You should upgrade your software from 4.0 to 4.1 via iTunes first, right? For this, you would use the iPhone1,2_4.0.1_8A306_Restore.ipsw from the download link provided above.
In step 2, when browsing 4.0 firmware folder, there is no IPSW file to select.
Please help
thanks
we have downloaded the ipsw file for 4.0.1 firmare for iphone 3g and it does not load the file is not recognised how do you make the firmware work plz
You have to update your phone to iOS 4.0.1 first before rejailbreaking it. It is the same process that was used for 3.0.1.
Uh… where does 4.01 come into play? Why do I even need to download 4.01 if I’m letting redsn0w use 4.0?
Anyone else get this?
It seems to me that we need to restore with 4.0.1 and then use redsn0w with 4.0….. did I get that right?
@paiboon
its simple the iso4 and ios 4.0.1 r the same just update to fix whatever but when u update phone with ios 4.0.1 thats the firmware u have on yr phone if yr not sure do the jailbreak then go on the phone setting–general–about and u should see ios 4.0.1
sup vinay. have you tried this jailbreak yet? would it make the phone slow? i jb’d 3G on os 4.0 and it went incredibly slow
Hi! I got a question. Could I jailbreak my iPhone 3GS by your Redsn0w instructions that you’ve gave it for us at this page? Or it’s only work with iphone 3G?
If anyone is interested, i just did this and it kept my IOS at 4.0.1 im assuming that the redsn0w just gets tricked into thinking its 4.0. but worked like a charm
Paiboon…. the process is to help jailbreak the firmware 4.0.1 if you still look into your setting after the jailbreak you still see 4.0.1..
since redsn0w is older then the firmware 4.0.1.. uploading the ipsw 4.0.1 wouldnt be recognize. but its firmware is very close as to the 4.0 os.
same question?
thanx alot it works
Download link for Redsn0w for windows/mac are broken?

When i download the firmware and i browse it its says that unable to recognize specified .IPSW What do i do ??
when it says wait for reboot i wait and wait but nothing happens its like its frozen ?? WHAT DO I DO ??
