How to Jailbreak Your iPod Touch 2G Using RedSn0w

23 June 2010 by Vinay 7 Comments

Following are the instructions to jailbreak your iPod Touch 2G (non MC) with the iOS 4.0 firmware, we are using RedSn0w tool for jailbreaking iPod touch and iPhone 3G. Redsn0w is available for Windows and Mac OS, and compatible with iTunes 9.2 Needles to say, but we are mentioning again that following guide is compatible with iPod touch 2G whose serial number does NOT begin with MC.

Requirements:

  • Redsn0w Tool from Dev-Team

For Windows –  Download here [Mirror 1]  [Mirror 2]

For Mac OS    –  Download here [Mirror 1]  [Mirror 2]

Instructions:

Step One : Create a folder on desktop and name it whatever you want, in the following article we named it iHackintosh. Now put all your downloaded files in the iHackintosh folder. Now connect your iPod touch to the computer and launch RedSn0w from iHackintosh folder. In the new Window click on the browse button to navigate to the iHackintosh folder on your desktop and select the iOS 4 firmware ipsw.
Step Two : In the new Window click on the browse button to navigate to the iHackintosh folder on your desktop and select the iOS 4 firmware ipsw.
Step Three : When asked if you have an iPod touch with a serial number that begins with MC. Click the appropriate button.
Step Four : Once the firmware has been verified click the Next button to continue.
Step Five : In next Window check the Install Cydia option. You can select / unselect more advanced options like verbose boot, multitasking, wallpaper etc. Once you selected all required options click on next button.4If you do not need multitasking we would recommend deselecting it as it could make your iPod 2G run very slow.

Step Six : Now turn off your iPhone but make sure it is still plugged in to USB port. If you satisfies this term then click next to proceed the next step is to put your iPhone in DFU mode.

5Step Five : To put your iPod in to DFU mode follow the onscreen instructions as follows Hold the Power button for 3 seconds, Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds, then release the Power button and continuing holding the Home button until your iPod is in DFU mode.

Step Seven : If all goes well means you put your iPod in DFU mode successfully then the following screen will appear otherwise you will be prompted to do from Step Five.

Step Eight : That’s it after 5 to 8 minute of process you will get your hands on a Jailbreaked iPod.

I don’t understand the “put all your downloaded files in your folder” part in Step one. What are these “downloaded files” and where do I find them?

I do everything perfectly. It finishes the “Downloading Jailbreak Data” screen and goes to the lock screen. But nothing ever changes. Still running 3.1.2. Any help?
