iPhone 3.1.3 Baseband 05.12.01 Unlock Video (Hardware Unlock)

Title is pretty excited but practically it’s not possible for everyone because it’s a hardware unlock. A random guy from Istanbul, Turkey has posted a video demonstration of a ‘hardware unlock’ on the iPhone 3G with OS 3.1.3 and Baseband 05.12.01 This video demonstration is just amazing! at least to watch it.

Don’t get your hopes high and wait for the Dev Team or GeoHot to find a solution. If you are visiting to Istanbul, Turkey for vacation etc. you can contact this guy for unlocking your phone. Guy posted his phone number in the video.

Basically it’s about replacing the baseband chip (taking it out by desoldenring and reflash it with 04.25 which can be unlocked using know tools)

Whatch out for the “chop-shops” that claim they can do it, as many of them are not qualified and surely your warranty will be voided (unless they can safely remove the “Do not remove” sticker inside and put it back once they are done). Chances are, they will over-heat parts of the logic board which may end up not working properly after sometime.

Not saying that it can’t be done (this is actually what Geohot did on the original iPhone, isn’t it?) but I would not trust anybody which is not technically qualified to do it.
