Sherif Hashim Found Baseband 05.12.01 Unlock Exploit

Advertisements

Sheriff Hashim, an iPhone hacker found a new exploit for the baseband 05.12.01 Sheriff handed the exploit over to very well deserved hands, yes we are talking about iPhone Dev Team. Musclenerd also confirmed that the crash is promising and they are working on porting this crash in to an unlock. As usual no ETA and no promises from Dev side. Sheriff now re-exploring 5.12.01 baseband for another crash.

pwnedMusclenerd stated that “Sheriff Hashim found a very promising crash in the new baseband.  He’s put in a lot of work looking for crashes over this past year, and he’s still looking for more!  We’ve started to look at his crash but it’s a long road between any given crash and a fully working unlock, and we couldn’t put an ETA on it even if we wanted to.  It’s not even guaranteed that an working unlock will come from this particular crash — it’s just too early to tell.”

Note : it’s a good news for those who accidentally updated their iPhones, but it may take time for final release. May be Dev team save this crash for future use. I heard about this problem before from one of my friends, stated that this problem will not be solved until the user get the original SIM CARD from the company that sold the contract first time , the worst is , u need to get the SIM CARD with small serial mentioned on it , not even any SIM CARD from same network

Please , double check before you consider my answer as a final, and really wish you best of luck to solve ur problem

And to those who waiting for the unlock 3.1.3 Modem Firmware 5.12.01
it seems like it still not published yet , as i got Info that the 04 will get to the market by the end of May , so Good Luck of waiting one more month

i don’t hate apple i hate AT&t worst cellular company for the best phone on the market i wish Steve would think harder about iphone 3g, 3G[s], and hopefully 4G for ALL CARRIERS! AT&t can go screw themselves they dont deserve the iphone with there over-rated over-price contracts and data plans, but its still a good idea to keep it for the new iphone OS 4.0 i mean look at what it can do! better then 3.1.2 and 3.1.3!

Same problem as Suzanna and have been searching EVERYWHERE for a fix. Baseband is now 5.12.01 but i managed to downgrade firmware back to 3.1.2 and still “No Service” and cannot find wifi connections.
    Very sad am I

ughhhhhh Any idea if the new jailbreak and unlock for 3G or 3GS 3.1.3 with lame update to 5.12.07 firmware? Its been months maaaaaaaaaaaan

  13. Suzanna March 29, 2010 Reply

I have an iPhone 3G. I connected my phone to iTunes and it updated my iPhone to 3.1.3 without my consent! So I downgraded it to 3.1.2 using blackra1n. But the baseband cannot be downgraded, so I got 05.12.01.

My phone shows “No Service”. This hasn’t happened before the jailbreak (this SIM card is the one which goes for this phone and don’t need to unlock). But I am unable to phone or text.

    Can anyone help?

working baseband hacks now from sherif hashim and geohot aswell so im guessing the release will be out in a few weeks from now. hopefully they found two different ways around it that way we have more options with future jailbreaking

  18. Jay February 19, 2010 Reply

Any idea folks on the time line for the release of the hack for baseband 5.12.01 and 3.1.3 with 3gs and new MC?? is it gonna be months??
As of now my iPhone is a paperweight…cant use it. upgraded from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3 via iTunes…changed my baseband and locked my phone….tried to restore it but it is now in factory settings and still the same baseband..using an old sony ericsson phone…life sucks without an iPhone…literally

I disagree dennis. they do it because they love what they do. they are helping hundreds and thouands of other jailbreakers just like me. if i could crack the firmware and baseband myself i would be working at it right now. apple needs to realise that when ppl pay over $1000 for a phone we should be able to do with it as we choose like customise backgrounds/themes,modify sms tones, mail tones, ringtones ect ect ect without being asked for more money and half of the things i just mentioned can’t even be done without jailbreak how sad that some kid has worked out a way to make the phone much more likeable when apple spends millions on programmers to make the standard iphone what it is out the box.ha!.it’s a scam by apple to line thair pockets as much as possible. they should be ashamed of themselves. greedy mongrels!

  20. Dennis Howlett February 16, 2010 Reply

I don’t see how it benefits anyone by hanging back on the unlock hack. It is possible to jailbreak 3.1.3 3GS phones without being registered at Cydia (I’ve done it) but if, as many have, 3.1.3 is installed as a result of an update via iTunes, then jailbreaking doesn’t serve any real useful purpose since the No Service killer comes into play for those caught by firmware 05.12.01 and baseband 06.04.

I understand why the DevTeam wish to keep it under wraps but there are ways it could safeguard the unlock hack so that Apple snoopers are not able to circumvent for the future.

Given the angst many are feeling over this, I’m willing to bet the DevTeam could charge a reasonable amount and people would happily pay.

And he was banned from App Store after that for ‘security reasons’.

  22. Caroline February 14, 2010 Reply

Oh that would be amazing news for all of those stuck with giant ipods!! Why being ignorant calling them all stupid? In my case the phone crashed and iTunes didn’t even ask about upgrading when I was restoring, it just did it. :(

  23. Squirrel61 February 13, 2010 Reply

It would be smart to keep this crash under veils at least until firmware 4.0 is officially released.

  24. Gupu February 12, 2010 Reply

It is still a very good news.
    I love you guys.
