I installed the last version of iTunes, let it restore the iPhone firmware (iTunes installed the firmware 3.1.2).
Then had a hard time in finding the RS version (dead links), I googled and managed getting the version 0.9.4 which worked fine.
I also encountered an error in launching the Redsn0w application. The application got stuck during the first steps (“has encountered a problem and needs to close” error message). I solved the problem by allowing the files to pass the firewall (firmware files 3.1.2 and 3.1.3, plus Bootloader files bl39.bin and bl46.bin). The “unblocking” process is as simple as follows: right click on the file>Properties>Allow.
Before understanding that iPhone 2G can’t be unlocked with limera1n or newer version from Redsn0w (it can with the version 0.9.4), I’ve been also been stuck on those frozen “waiting for reboot” or “DFU mode” windows for a couple of days! :/

thank you so much for this. my 2g iphone freeze & died. i decided to go ahead and update after i restore. i did everything you said and did ok up until i got to the.. “waiting to reboot” screen. i cancel and started it again more than a dozen times to no avail. i keep researching & tried unplugging the usb but that didn’t work. i finally decided to restart my mac and unplug the internet then start the redsnow again and it worked perfectly after just one try! thanks again sir! i got my iphone back i’m stingy & don’t want to upgrade, i still love my 2g!

the only issue im facing is if i open Youtube it says cant open…
Also i read above that we need to make some changes in Cydia to make youtube work… so i went to Cydia.. and that also has some problems.

you know what i just bought it yesterday and i tried to update it. it made my iphone was unlock.
it made me feel scare of it. i just used it just 1 day.
I managed to get my iphone unlocked with the help of procedure given on this link. After step 3, it asked for 3.9 & 4.6 bootloader files which I had initially downloaded. I browsed and pointed to the correct location of these files on my computer. I did not had to do step 4 (as my iphone was in recovery mode).
Now my iphone is working. But it still is not connecting to my wifi? Any help would be appreciated.
I recently updated my iphone 2g from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3 with iTunes 9.2.1.5 and now my phone is not getting unlocked.
It comes in recovery mode, iTune detects it in recovery mode, but when I try to restore the sn0wbreeze ipsw file, iTunes tries to restore, unlock the phone but then gives (1600 or 1604) errors.

Ignore my previous post. I unlocked my phone and without realizing that it is unlocked, I restored to factory settings… three times

In step 5, it says “you will be asked to put the iPhone to DFU mode”…. but for me, after downloading and installing few things the phone was just on. Am I missing something?
for steve! with readsn0w 0.9.4 u check install cydia and another box that don’t apear on this page, the box ‘unlock’ and when u click next the program will ask for the both .bin files. it’s easy. first i did the same thing like u because i didn’t check the unlock box too. but the second time i succeded. good luck mate.

I have an apple iphone 2G running which accidentally got upgraded to 3.1.3. It was a jailbroken and unlocked iphone and now it is stuck at the ‘emergency’ calls only screen. I am able to make and receive calls but nothing else works. When I connect to itunes it says that the ‘sim is incorrect’. Could someone kindly guide me as to what shall I be doing in this case. I tried the above mentioned steps but redsn0w 0.9.4 says ‘rest of the process takes place on your device’ and my iphone screen goes blue for sometime, reboots and comes back to the previous ‘emergency calls’ screen. My history is like this: I ran 3.1.2, then an update came with Rock! that crashed my phone (I think all files in /sbin was removed), so I restored the phone, to 3.1.3. D*mn. My SIM didn’t work anymore. Then I downgraded to 3.1.2 again. All works fine. iTunes says I am running 3.1.2 again.
HOWEVER – I have one slight problem

If I upgrade using the instuctions above what happens to the apps? Are they deleted? Will iTunes restore the Apple apps? Since iTunes has done a back up will it be able to restore the non-Apple apps? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your video i spent half the night trying to unlock my 2g on 3.1.3 but when i got to the part where you put it in dfu mode it wouldnt go it kept going into recovery mode. after several hours i decided to call it a night and try again fresh after work. after one of my usual middle of the night trips to the restroom i noticed my iphone was flashing on the desk in the dark so i went to check it out and discovered the power button was sticking and the phone was coming on and turning off in the boot up so the little apple kept going on and off. which is why i couldnt get into dfu mode since it wouldnt power off. it kept turning back on before i could get it in dfu mode. anyway my husband fixed the power button and i sat down at my pc for another try and FIVE minutes later my phone was unlocked! YAY!!!!
I do have one problem, I cant get MMS to work any suggestions?
Followed the instructions did not work for me. After a few hours of trying to sort out the wifes old iphone edge I finally got it to work.
If you have followed the instructions above then you will have all the ispw files down including the basebands.
Basically go DFU mode on iphone, itunes will require u to restore. Keep shift down and press the retore button. Select the 3.1.2 firmware and it should complete.
Once complete retored your iphone edge download Blackra1n.exe.
Run Blackra1n.exe and follow the instructions. Ensure that iphone is turned on for Blackra1n to work.
Everything is automated. In minutes my iphone edge was unlocked and jailbroken. If you do not see Cydia or Rock dun worry. Click on the blackra1n application and you can install it from inside.
Did i mention wireless works fine.
Hope this helps anyone having problems with unlocking and jailbraking iphone edge. Good luck… and enjoy!

How is my phone supposed to look after beeing unlocked/jailbroken with redsnow/ blackrain? I ran redsnow first and than blackrain it did not seem as any of the hacks worked because my screen looks the same as always. Can anyone please help? I have a 2G and followed the instructions however in redsnow it asks to hold down power and home until that message goes away, which I did (instead of the DFU instructions here).
The problem is that the phone is still not unlocked *wails* and I don’t know what to do. I tried following the DFU instructions too, but it just loaded up in itunes as recovery mode and redsnow didn’t continue on at all.

Hi, I had an iphone 2g 3.1.2 – i used blackra1n, cydia, and bootneuter. I jailbreaked. But after I ran bootneuter it said TMobile in the corner but only said “Connect to Itunes”. I then connected to itunes to restore it, but accidentally upgraded to 3.1.3. My baseband is 04.05.04, and when I put the Tmobile card in it still says TMobile in the corner and “Connect to Itunes”. WHAT DO I DO NOW??? RUN BLACKRA1N AGAIN? OR RUN REDSNOW?? PLEASE HELP!

instead of using the 3.1.3, use the 3.1.2 firmware for now and it will work like a charm

Followed the instructions did not work for me. After a few hours of trying to sort out the wifes old iphone edge I finally got it to work.
If you have followed the instructions above then you will have all the ispw files down including the basebands.
Basically go DFU mode on iphone, itunes will require u to restore. Keep shift down and press the retore button. Select the 3.1.2 firmware and it should complete.
Once complete retored your iphone edge download Blackra1n.exe.
Run Blackra1n.exe and follow the instructions. Ensure that iphone is turned on for Blackra1n to work.
Everything is automated. In minutes my iphone edge was unlocked and jailbroken. If you do not see Cydia or Rock dun worry. Click on the blackra1n application and you can install it from inside.
Did i mention wireless works fine.

After the procedure of Redsnow was complete i clicked Finish and now my iPhone 2G is stuck in a restart-loop.
Its been restarting 4 times now.

How is my phone supposed to look after beeing unlocked/jailbroken with redsnow/ blackrain? I ran redsnow first and than blackrain it did not seem as any of the hacks worked because my screen looks the same as always. Than when I changed to my T-mobile sim card it is obviously unlocked and I do have the apple applications store still…….can I have managed to unlock and not jailbreak, is that possible?

I have a 2g and I accidentally downloaded the 3.1.3 update and now i am screwed (grrrrrrrr). I tried to follow this procedure but when I browse to add 3.1.2, redsnow says it doesnt recognize it. Any advice??????

Can anyone please help? I have a 2G and followed the instructions however in redsnow it asks to hold down power and home until that message goes away, which I did (instead of the DFU instructions here).

Hi, I had an iphone 2g 3.1.2 – i used blackra1n, cydia, and bootneuter. I jailbreaked. But after I ran bootneuter it said TMobile in the corner but only said “Connect to Itunes”. I then connected to itunes to restore it, but accidentally upgraded to 3.1.3. My baseband is 04.05.04, and when I put the Tmobile card in it still says TMobile in the corner and “Connect to Itunes”.
