“In order to create a new category of devices, those devices will have to be far better at doing some key tasks — important things — better than the laptop and smartphone. What kind of tasks? Things like browsing the web, enjoying and sharing photos, videos, enjoying music, playing games, reading e-books.” Here comes the iPad.

Hardware View:

1 ) Weighing at 1.5 pounds and just 0.5 inches thin, the iPad delivers a 9.7 inch capacitive display with full featured multitouch support.

2 ) It is equipped with a 1 GHZ Apple A4 Chip, with different storage capacities from 16 GB – 32 GB – 64 GB.

iPad is powered by our own custom silicon. Our own chip. It’s called the A4, and it screams.” 1GHz. 16, 32, or 64GB of flash storage. – Steve Jobs

4 ) Equipped with an accelerometer, a compass, speaker, mic, dock connector and an astonishing powerful battery, that can achieve 10 hours of battery life. You think thats quite amazing, the iPad can stay in standby mode for over a month.

“All the usual suspects: accelerometer, compass, speaker, mic, dock connector. And it’s got battery.” – Steve Jobs

So as you can see this amazing device is equipped with very neat hardware specs that would certainly replace all the net books out there. It is very fast and responsive, contains different storage capacities, would have been better though if there were more storage choices. It is a great internet browsing device which gives you a totally new experience for your browsing.

Lets take a look at the software side of this iPad.

Software View:

1 ) Apple has built this device making it compatible with all the current iPhone and iPodTouch applications. Without the need of modification, the iPad can run all applications. How did Apple manage to do that? It can be done in 2 ways. First, it can be done with pixel for pixel accuracy in a black box. Second, it can be done through pixel-double in order to run them in full screen.

Here is an application that Scott demoed for us during the event: Facebook, which is used by almost everyone. Lets take a look how well integrated it is in the iPad.

If you can notice the “1x” button, at first it would be “2x” which would double your pixels and make the application available in full screen mode.

Another application preview that is downloaded as it is out of the box with no modifications at all, SnowCross. Look how beautiful it looks on this amazing screen.

Here you have it, all your favorite applications for the iPhone and iPodTouch can be used with the iPad.

2 ) Apple has also released a new SDK which contains iPad tools, that allows developers to build amazing applications for the iPad.

“If the developer takes the time, they can also take full advantage of the large touchscreen display in the iPad. We did that with our own internal apps, and we expect developers will want to do that too.” – Scott

3 ) Apple has shared its iPad secret a couple weeks ago with a couple of developers, that have managed to develop applications for the iPad in just 2 weeks. Lets take a look at these applications.

“We’re really excited about the possibilities for developers on the iPad. About 2 weeks ago we invited some developers to Apple to give them a sneak peek and see what they can build in just a couple weeks.” – Scott

First off Gameloft, the best and largest game developer yet to be found on the AppStore. Gameloft previewed a game called Nova, which is a first person shooter. According to some live blogs, the game was kind of slow, but don’t forget it was done in just 2 weeks. The gameplay is said to be pretty awesome and amazing, it brings a new perspective to gaming.

Second, New York Times. Martin Nisenholtz, the speaker that announced the plans of NYT for the iPad, which will bring a new way of reading a newspaper.

“It captures the essence of a newspaper, but it’s so much more.”
“We’re incredibly psyched to pioneer the next generation of digital journalism.” – Martin Nisenholtz
