Jailbreak iPhone 3GS and OS 3.1 Latest Update

Apple makes jailbreaking the iPhone 3GS hard n hard by introducing ECID, Dev team and Geohot advised the iPhone users to capture their ECID, iBEC, iBSS 2 months ago and we published how to guides for that. But it seems many of jailbreakers haven’t captured their dumps. If you are still on OS 3.0 or 3.0.1 then do hurry and save your ECID on Saurik’s Cydia Server.So when the Dev Team will release new software to run the Jailbreak, will send a request to the server and if your Saurik ECID will be present, the release will take place without any problems.

So to capture and save your ECID to Cydia Servers, just navigate to home page of Cydia through which Saurik promises a "simpler life" with regard to the future Jailbreak your device. Click and Cydia will automatically save your ECID to their mighty Servers forever.

Update : Cydia ECID grabber doesn’t work anymore. Needs Apple servers to sign 3.0 + 3.0.1 fw’s, and they aren’t anymore. [Via HaraTaiki]

Let’s start off by saying that the updates and restore the firmware on an iPhone 3GS are "tested" by Apple. Specifically, before starting a recovery, a downgrade or an upgrade, iTunes communicates with the server by Apple and a certificate verifying this into the iPhone. If during this check the certificate fails to respond clearly to the application server, the firmware is correctly installed on the iPhone, if not Instead, iTunes returns an error.

Well, September 9, with the release of the new firmware 3.1, Apple decided to sign only the certificate for this new version of the OS, completely abandoning the old one. It follows that, at present, it is impossible:

Reinstate Firmware 3.0.1 on an iPhone, which mounted 3GS already 3.0.1
Moving from 3.0 to 3.0.1
Return 3.1 through 3.0.1

In other words, all cases in which implied the old firmware 3.0 will not be successful, so the only thing possible is to install the original 3.1 but probably block any possibility to run the Jailbreak.

Arrived at this point Saurik has ensured that shortly will provide a detailed guide to downgrade from 3.1 to 3.0 but this will only apply to those people who have decided to use Cydia to save its ECID,This means that people who have already upgraded to 3.1 can "go back" and not lose the ability to run the Jailbreak. Users who have wisely saved his ECID through Cydia and most have decided to stay with the firmware 3.0.1, can also use the Jailbreak. The only people who at the time, will remain locked to 3.1 original and can not run the Jailbreak are those who have installed the 3.1 without saving the ECID of 3.0.

I do not know how this situation can be definitive, because the Dev Team may surprise you by giving everyone a chance to upgrade to 3.1 Jailbroken, but when the only information we can give are those just mentioned. We also remember that it is useless to save the certificate attached ECID now, since it concerns the firmware 3.1 and not the previous one.

I advise you not to fiddle too much with the firmware and iTunes since even the slightest mistake can force you to upgrade your 3GS at OS 3.1.Let us wait patiently for the release of new tools by the DevTeam and their guides to run the Jailbreak of 3.1.

i bought an 3gs with 3.0 os, and then accidently i upgraded it to os3.1 via itunes… a goof up i know. is there any option besides waiting?? please advise.

right i might be missing the point, but on 3.0.1 update i lost everything. i downloaded redsn0w and used 3.0 ispw firmware i have downloaded and kept on my system.

cant we do the same with 3.1, download update. re-jailbreak with 3.0 firmware through redsn0w?

I have 3GS with version 3.0, I tried to remove my contacts and now iphone hang at apple logo. tried to restore my 3.0 version back but itune not allowing to do so. please let me know what I will do. is there any solution to restore my 3.0 version, or I will wait for new jailbreak and unlock solution with 3.1 version.

I too bought a 3Gs with 3.0 , updated to 3.1 , hoping will jailbreak it , not wrking since then …. I even tried downgrading it to 3.0 …. No use , coz fr tht yur cydia file shud be hassed or else it will giv 3002 error …. Now th only thing we can do is to wait for 3.1 jailbreak !! Thy say it will be out soon , very soon , within a week or so ….. So dnt wry ….

to the author, i by mistake did the reset of my 3gs via iphone itself, will i be able to get a custom 3.1 on my phone without my baseband being changed.
