Jailbreak and unlock iPhone 3.0.1

1 August 2009 by Vinay 20 Comments

Apple released iPhone OS 3.0.1 for iPhone only, the new Firmware 3.0.1 does not update the Baseband for which Apple did not implement any new method of defense against the Jailbreak and Unlock . It follows that RedSn0w that PurpleRa1n should be able to unlock the new version of the operating system. iSpazio recommend not to do so, and wait for an update by the DevTeam and GeoHot that they need to add new tools to their Bundles. It holds your security and there is no particular reason to hurry because the changes in the new Firmware is practically zero.

Download iPhone 2G firmware 3.0 iPhone 2G (filename:iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw)

Download iPhone 3G firmware 3.0 iPhone 3G (filename: iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw)

Download iPhone 3GS firmware 3.0 iPhone 3GS (filename: iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw )

Because there is no baseband update so previous guides can be applied for the same jailbreak and unlock.  Just let iTunes update or restore you to official 3.0.1 then run redsn0w.  The only “trick” is that when redsn0w asks you to identify the IPSW used, point it at the 3.0 IPSW instead of the 3.0.1 one. However we are not encouraging you to do so because OS 3.1 is coming within a month and the recent update is nothing more than a Simple patch. And if you are afraid of SMS hack then be cool every GSM mobile can be exposed with that hack.

Here are our Guides on Jailbreaking and Unlocking iPhone OS 3.0 but you can follow for OS 3.0.1 too :

I’m having trouble; I follow these instructions (and the ones on the Dev Team Blog) and I get to the reboot and the phone doesn’t reboot.

I’ve tried disconnecting it per some commenter’s advice, didn’t work. No matter how many times I try I can’t get the redsn0w to work in full.

    Any ideas?

    @dshanahan,
by reboot I’m assuming you mean the point redsnow(whatever it’s called they all follow the same principle, you upload the OS after wiping, longest process) reboots iphone and you see a harddrive image(the tool should allow you to select cydia, installer, icy whatever) keep selecting lesser items e.g, select unlock but not cydia, select cydia but not icy… That should work.

Hello, I have spent most nights for a week trying to unlock my 2G iPhone and was getting nowhere. Came across your redsn0w instructions and 30 mins later it’s done, with vista by the way. What can I say …. I’m very grateful. Chris

Are you using RS 8? Try an earlier version. 8 does not work for me, but previous version does.

DShan: I had the same problem. It would say it was installing on the program but it would just sit there and sit there and sit there…

Try uninstalling iTunes 8.2 and downgrading to an older version, maybe 7 or so. You can find guides on how to do so elsewhere. Make sure to back-up your files before you downgrade as your iTunes libraries won’t be compatible. Once you get it back to version 7, run the program to unlock/jailbreak your iPhone and it should move past that last screen when it says jailbreaking or whatever. Your iPhone will come on and say it’s Jailbreaking.

    Hope this helps.

Works perfect thanx dev team… Bit off topic… but Im having trouble with unresponsive touch screen and i have to respring for it to work… and no I don’t think its a hardware problem because its the whole screen and restoring the phone takes the problem away for a while, until it just creeps up again, almost as if the phone memory gets sluggish….. any help would be much appreciated thanx

This how to post has explained to me the difference that i was looking for that other sites completely miss. This on actually gives you the option to download the right downloads for the right model iphone you have. Its awesome if you cant do a jailbreak/unlock on an iPhone with the instructions from here then you might as well leave it to someone else that knows what they are doing, the directions explained here couldnt be any easier. thx alot for your help.

I had the same problem with the reboot. Then I found a very helpful tip in Youtube where a guy told me to unplug the iPhone (mine is 2G) and plug it in back in 3 secs. It worked great and I had it jailbroken and unlocked. I can make all the calls I want but people can’t reach me quite often. It says that my phone is switched off even though it isn’t. And I have a REAL battery problem – it’s gone in a couple of hours. Any help with that? 10x

    Hi All
I scratch loaded my Iphone 2G. After that I upgraded it to 3.0.1. Now when I use the RedSn0W_Win_0.8 with Bootloaders 3.9 and 4.6, it displays “Downloading Jailbreak Data…” for almost 15 minutes and then still does not unlock the phone. I can only do S.O.S. calls. Can some one help me about it?
Also, how can I get my basic softwares e.g, browser, maps, weather, calc etc back?
    Appreciated,
    Regards
    AQ
