Cool! I need a MAC OSX (leopard) in my PC to install another MAC OSX (snow leopard)… I have Windows installed and I have one HD empty to install MAC OSX x86 based….
I am interested in installing SL on a old poc (that does
not have any mac os on it). Is there a guide available somewhere
that shows me how to install it on a pc? thanks
Hi everyone, I stumbled on an interesting observation yesterday.
I tried to install SL exactly stated in this article. But whenever I went to install it it would not validate.
After doing some research I found out that too much ram can cause the install to fail.
On my laptop I have 4gb of ram, to make this work I had to take out 1 2gb stick. After that, it worked like a charm!
(Of course, put the stick back in after)
Is this way will compatible with PM55(Chipset) with core i7 720 QM
Hi I installed Snow Leopard successfully although audio and internet is not working. I don’t know if I missed something. Any help?

Hello, I have a kernel panic as
Can you help me.
Arf, I got a kernel panic just at the begining, and even with the boot parameters, it’s only register addresses that I get as informations…
SO I dunno if it comes from this or not, it was just at the begining, some stuffs get loaded and then BAM!
I have to say that I’m installing it on an USB drive alse, maybe that’s the point 😉
I have been trying to install vanilla SL on my Thinkpad T61. I cannot make the internal keyboard and the trackpad working. I have to use a USB keyboard and USB mouse. I used the VoodoPS2Controller.kext. I tried to use ApplePS2Controller. No success. Have you some ideas?

i have problems with the GUID partitioning process, when i try to create the GUID partition, the progress bar doesn’t fill, i waited about 6 minutes and the process didn’t finish, i tried the other 2 partition schemes and both work just fine,
am i doing something wrong or not doing something? does the disk utility of MacOSX have any kind of restrictions?
what i did use:
* Sandisk 8Gb Memory Stick PRO Duo (using a PSP 1001 and then a USB Generic Card Reader)
* iBook G4 PowerPC (with tiger i think)
Thanks in advance
After Installing the Snow Leo 10.6.2 I am getting this error while booting please solve my problem

my leopard gives error not booting at all.. it hangs at stating dsmos ….
Almost there. I am using PC EFI v10.6 to boot the installed SL. The problem is that after the verbose boot process ends, I see a white screen for like a moment, and the screen goes black.
Any idea why this might be happening?
I really need to install the MAC OS on my Toshiba laptop Satallite (A200 – 1AX); tried all the kind of OSX86 (iDeneb, iaktus and leo4All) the installed were compeleted successfully in all these but when the computer restart the system will be held.
Now I saw this article; thanks a lot for this easy description; but when I come to start make the instruction; I want to know How to install the MAC OS Snow leopard on Hard disk as written in the second paragraph;while this instruction is to install it ?
Thnaks in advance,
This is crap. A “walkthrough” with a step that that expects you do already have done something/know how to do it.
Actly i want to install Mac with Win7 on my Lapi.

Okay so I installed this on my PC (in an external hard drive) and when I booted it up it worked.
But every few times I reboot the computer, the computer doesn’t start up anymore (the fan spins, but nothing is working, not even the BIOS) and I have to clear my CMOS memory by taking apart the computer and removing the motherboard battery for a few minutes every time to make the PC work again.
My specs are:
HP Pavilion a6452.it
AMD Phenom 9500 quad-core running at 2.2ghz (supports 64-bit)
NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT with 512MB VRAM
ASUS NARRA3 motherboard
Please help me!!!
I read that snow leopard would spoil processors which are atom
I followed the guide, and replaced the mach_kernel, because i’m using an atom, but when i boot up my new hard drive, my computer goes through the bios normally, then says “Loading Darwin/x86”, then goes to a black screen with no hard drive activity, what’s up?
thanks! tried 4 or 5 different methods without success until i found this one. worked like a charm.

I was able to finish Phase One without any issues.

I have Mac OS 10.5.7 installed on external USB drive using iATKOS method.
My system is Lenovo R60
A friend of mine is converting my PC based Intel board over to MAC. He was able to install the 10.5 version and it worked fine until I updated the OS. He’s now trying to get Snow Leopard 10.6 on the machine. It installed ok but was having problems with the ethernet card not connecting to the internet and we replace the card and its seems to be working but the big problem is not all the USB’as are working. The mouse and keyboard work fine but when plugging in like an ipod or external devise it doesn’t work. He said something about seat belt isn’t working properly but we both have looked and havn’t seen anything to fix the issue…..any ideas of what to do? I’ve replaced the hard drive with a new one so there is no issues with the old MAC os interferring.
My issue is that I can boot up with x32 v f without a problem. No errors, no kernel panics. However, in normal boot, the boot up ends with:

I tried to install snow leopard in an external usb hard disk plugged in my laptop (Acer Aspire 5633WLMI), and everything was installed with no errors..However, on boot in verdose mode it stops after loading the NTFS driver and the tries to mount the NTFS partition of my laptop hard disk (using 10.5.8 leopard ,the ntfs partition works ok). After booting in safe mode, it boots properly.. Any suggestions? thanks in advance!
Many thanks Vinay !!
I just have running 10.6.2 with this tutorial and with extra help everything is working (only the wireless intel3945abg is not working).
I installed first in a pendrive because i don’t have a second disk. Then i installed on the disk.
Laptop Fujitsu Siemens U9200.
/sbin/mnt -uw /
kextcache -v 1 -t -m /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext /System/Library/Extensions/
I ran 1st line. OK
I ran 2nd line. OK
How to type in the rest? I get syntex errors if i put it on 1 line.
Thanx for any help.
Great guide by the way.
I would just like to point out that osx86 island was not the first to get snow to work, I was just the first to post a decent tutorial on it. The people on the osx hu irc (godly people, very awesome crew for putting up with me) – and the people at insanelymac (where I met ridgeline) were the core behind it all. Of course, you cant make mention of an osx86 anything without mentioning netkas, who, while reluctant to help (he’s not to blame, about a million people bombard him with questions every day) is an amazing impact on osx86 in just about every category.
Awesome thread though, keep it up! Hopefully you can provide the support that I currently cannot!
@ Fujilives Thanks for your visiting and valuable comment.
I am trying to do this, but keep failing at the DSDT.aml patching section. Here’s my environment:
I downloaded a VMWare image of Leopard and it runs great. No problems so far. I connect a second harddrive with a USB adaqpter, Leopard sees it right away, I partition it and begin following these steps. Always fail to patch on DSDT. I tried hooking it up directly to the computer and adding it as a second hard drive to the settings for the virtual machine, and still fails at the DSDT.
Abit KN9-SLI with AMD 6400+ Athlon 64 x2, 9600GT 512mb graphics card, 4Gb DDR2.
I installed OSx86 Leopard once before, but that was a while ago… when I had an available DVD to burn to. If anyone has suggestions, or more resources for me to read, please email me email@example.com and let me know. Thnaks!!

Can I use this guide to dual boot snow leopard and windows 7? I am currently dual-booting windows 7 and leopard.
Tried a lot of em, n this is the only one that works! Had a couple of KPs at first, but the weird thing is, the more I booted snow the further the KPs were apart. My biggest problem was the video (old geforce 6200) wasn’t listed in efi studio, solution was nvidia kext, installed with osx tools- btw SL is extremely fast!

Perfect Post — Congr
FYI to anyone in my boat..
I followed these instructions on an HP netbook. I first has a working iDeneb 10.5.7 on one partition (GUID-based) and a retail Snow Leopard install on a second partition.
After I copied the kext file as described above to my /SL/Extra/Extensions folder (and associated .mkext), I could boot either install. It was just hanging.
I tried various things (fixing permissions, looking for any other modifications), and eventually booted my install disk and removed the /SL/Extra folder I had created. After that my 10.5.7 started loading again.
I don’t know why putting the extra extensions folder on the 10.6 partition would stop by 10.5.7 install from booting, but I can verify that this is what is happening after doing it again as a test.
(I’m assuming I just don’t have the right extensions for my system, btw)
Any working solution for HD4850 ?

First of all: thank you for the great guide.
I have an ASUS P5W DH Deluxe main-board, Leopard ist still running great, no kernel panics, transfer rates are fast (SATA/USB/FireWire).
I installed Snow Leopard on a new hard drive (no upgrade of the old system; I tried it once, I had many issues, so I decided to go with a clean install). Everything works so far. Internal SATA-drives are fast and responsive.
BUT: transferring files via USB or FireWire is extremely slow (as I mentioned before, both still very fast in 10.5.8); it takes a looong time, even to copy a small (e.g. 1MB) file.
Does anybody have any suggestion, what to tweak in order to boost the transfer-rate via USB and FireWire?
Hi i have a problem, when i try to make partition on disk, it says that is impossible because is not possible to disactivate the hard disk, how can i do?

Help MacOSX stops loading on ASUS V3-P5G43
Salut the X86 community; tks for this wonderful collection of instruments; before even thinking of “snow” i wanted first to install Leo without “snow” but stranded:
After inserting Mac OS X retail loading started as foreseen, but stopped a minute or so after having produced the grey screen with apple vignet, the last line (F8-v) being: -Extension “com.apple.driver.Apple.ACPIPlatform” has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpicomponents; use only one style.
(I made two screenshots). And there it ended; i would appreciate any suggestions to solve this without touching the retail. Tks in advance.

Ok, I need to know, where are you guys getting this stable copy of snow leopard!?!?!?!? I cannot find it and with Demonoid down, it is obviously harder to obtain. I can find the Beta version, but I want the copy you all speak of. I am stuck at 10.5.7 and I would like to get to 10.6 Any links would be great, but one that works. THANK YOU.
I LOVE MY HACKINTOSH!!!
I have done everything. Now, I only get this error
Unsupported CPU: family = 0x6, model = 0x17 ….

WHAT SHOULD I DO? 🙁
Excellent and comprehensive guide to installing Snow Leopard on PC.I have installed using your guide and its working wel except for wireless and audio.Tried many kexts for audio but in vain. The audio on my laptop is alc889 (Laptop is Acer Aspire 8930-6442) and Intel 5100 wireless.Kindly let me know of any working kexts for audio for the device ID mentioned above.
Thanking u in anticipation
Hi there first of all thanks for this guide and your time.. i have downloaded Snow Leopard build 10a432 and i have got an “installation failed” error i saw it when i got back to see if if everything went fine or not.. too bad it didn’t.. i am using a dell inspiron 1525 Kalyway installation v 10.5.8 now.. i am not sure what i am supposed to do now.. another tiny detail that i tried installing this thing on my usb since i am out of space on my laptop HD (32gb usb with GUID partition Settings).. any help on this would be greatly appreciated!
oh yeah also in customize i have discarded language packs.. and still the same result.
I got lost here:
Alphanumeric code you generated with EFiStudio
What do you write in device-properties?
Vinay, thanks for answering but I’m sure that’s so?
because I have leopard 10.5.8 retail and going very well.
Nose snow what happens to be me on the block and I
restarts’m doing something wrong and it’s nose, but if
you say that you’ll have no reason thanks
@ Lokisimio Actually Snow leopard minimum requirement is Core 2 Duo, even Dual Core processors aren’t supported yet. You need to wait for hacked kernel..
Hello. This applies to the retail version is that I’ve installed and gives me a blank snapshot and restart the computer. Help.
PC: Pentium 4 2.0 Ghz, 2GB RAM, GA-8IR533, Nvidia FX 5500.
@ Lokisimo Pentium 4 is not supported by Snow leopard, look for a pentium optimized kernel..
ok so i opened up console.
here is the message: prior to the crash

any ideas? it will run fine if i boot to safe mode… if i boot and ignore caches – that when eventually i will kernel panic.
Hi , thanks for the guide , Chameleon RC3 (snow support )is out .
Snow is working in my machine 🙂
it works now.
i put the “AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext” (updated missing dev-ID by zür.zip) from “music-man” in /Extra.
LAN works out of the box, but no sound.
any idea, which kext i need to get the SOUND run?
I’ve already installed Snow twice. But now I always get this message on boot: “JNL unknown dev: flushing fsdisk buffer refused 0x5” Why?
Thanks a lot for the tutorial!
Will this also work when installing Snow Leopard onto an USB attached harddrive from my MacBook running Leopard or am I going to damage my Leopard installation?
@ Chris Yes you can install Genuine Mac and External hard drive.
This is the same KP that I had… I had no time to work on this SL installation over the weekend because I still need my Leopard to work on something…. managed to land one snowOSX universal v3.5… will try to see it works… if not, will go back to the basic guide again…
So I followed these steps to the dot, and I end up getting kernel panics when I boot into OSX. I did try -x32, -s and -x, to no avail, anyone have any idea about why this happens? http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/8742/img0522a.jpg
Getting the latest fakesmc.kext from Netkas solved the problem with having to use -v for startup.
Thanks for the guide and info. As I have an AMD board I used the other guide but it mostly the same and no-one is commenting there.
Install went fine and all started up ok. Had to make a custom efi-string hex thingy using this guide http://forum.netkas.org/index.php/topic,104.0.html for the 7300le I have.
My Wacom tablet keep reverting to default prefs with each reboot – no big deal.
I have to start each boot with the -v to get the desktop up otherwise I just get a blue screen. Only thing strange in the bootup osd is that the FakeSMC isn’t loading??
Still working on the Sound
Asrock AliveNF7G-HD720p AMD 6000+ 2Gb ram 7300le
Got SL installed but it was hanging on AppleRTL8169E.
So i disabled onboard LAN and now it hangs on “ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::start – waitForService(AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement)” .
I do have a pci ethernet card as well, will i need to take this out as well to et around these errors ??
great guide best i`ve seen
First of all, thank you very much for this guide.
I did my Snow installation through a 10.5 Leopard with Efi.
I used Chameleon v2 and had to manually replace the “boot” file.
Now, normal booting isn’t possible, than the wheel under the Apple logo keeps spinning. So i tried booting with “ignore caches” and it worked. After the welcome screens I could play a bit with the finder but I got 2 kernel panics when i was surfing the internet and installing Natit (tried to install that ’cause my graphs were crapy).
Another problem is that i can’t see any HD’s on my desktop.
So could somebody please help me?
Thans in advance, much appreciated !!
I have installed all successful and the first boot went pretty far comparing to all following boots- anyways, the result is a panic. The first boot it finished loading kexts and normal system startup begun, than panic, and it said there were some problems with appleio… I cant recall the name exactly. All other booting stops much earlier, while screen runs fast, this must be a cpu panic.
I can’t even boot any further no matter what mode i try. -x32 or single user mode boot results in an early panic.
Any clue guys?
vincent , thats whats going on with me too, read above.
@ Dhruv Boot with -x32 flag to boot in 32-bit mode.
@ Travis @ Vincent Boot with -x32 -v -f mode and report the error message.
@ Hayim Yes you can use your friends MacBook.
@ Flavious Google for appropriate drivers fr your KB/M or you can use your Leopard ones but for 32 bit only. To Avoid “Installation Failed” error remove languages while installing Snow leopard under customization option.
@EVO Yes you are right but you need to replace the default OSInstall.mpkg with a Modified one so google for modified OSInstall.mpkg, to install on a single HDD.
hello, everything installed perfect without errors but when i go to boot up snow leopard it freezes at the gray apple screen.
any ideas how to fix this? im so close!
i discover a new problem, when the instalation process is almost done, i’ve got a message “Installation Failed” and i don’t know why. I try to install Snow Leopard from iAtkos v7.
Any idea ?
Thanks. I will try this weekend because I found other issues with my vanilla Leopard setup. I have one IDE harddrive, one SATA DVD drive, three SATA harddrives. I have chameleon installed somewhere but I thought was all drives because when installation, I installed Chameleon as bootloader. However, I tried to disable my IDE harddrive where iATKOS_v7 was installed, all my SATA harddrives (one with xXx_distro (vanilla), one with Windows Vista), can’t be booted. Seemed like the bootloader is in the IDE HDD only. I have the third SATA hdd for snow leopard, thus, hope to install SL in this.
What I’m going to do:
(1) disable (unplug) all drives and leave the third Sata HDD and DVD drives.
(2) Partitioned the Sata hdd into 3 partitions.
(3) installed iATKOS_v7 into the 2nd partitions. Tried to boot into Leopard.
(4) from Leopard, install SL into the first partition.
What do you think?
I’ve got a problem with my keyboard and mouse. i use an Dell Laptop, and the keyboard and mouse doesnt work. Any idea ? Also my video card Nvidia 2600 doesnt work properly.
Hey Vinay, great guide!
One question? Can I use a proper MacBook with Leopard to install SL to an external drive? (and then put that drive in a Hack Pro and complete the install?)
a) Will this work?
b) Will this hurt the MacBook at all? (It’s a friend’s macbook!)
ok so i boot with ignore caches via chameleon 2.0
snow leopard runs fine for a while..
but after 3 mins or so kernel panic!
hey i installed everything perfectly and without any errors, but when i go to boot snow it freezes at the grey apple logo. how can i fix this?
i installed snow leopard successfully using the above guide but 32bit is missing in my installation. i wanted 32bit coz my d-link wifi uses 32bit drivers and i can only use them if i boot into 32bit mode. i tried all the flags to boot into 32bit mode but chameleon seems to be skipping it and always booting in 64bit mode.
please help me out i dont have internet in my laptop(with snow leopard).
pleeeeeaaasseeee help me boot into 32bit mode
Is the ‘Chameleon v2 Snow Leopard Support.pkg’ a seperate download, or is it just an option in the Chameleon v2 install?
@ Vinay – I did a clean install with 1.0, but I cant finish the rest of the tutorial because the files in the extra folder are not there, its just an empty extra folder.
@ Josh Nope the Retail Disk doesn’t made any effect so don’t worry about that. The main difference is made by the kext selection so be careful and do a little research on forums about your board. About chameleon 1.0 you can create an Extension folder in Extra or you can also install to System/Library/Extension
@ Jerky33 Chameleon 2.0 can’t boot Snow leopard itself, so Netkas developed PCEFI 10 that adds the support to SL, the Chameleon v2 Snow Leopard Support.pkg replaces the boot file of chameleon with PCEFI 10. You can do it manually also as described in guide above.
“If Chameleon 2.0 + EFI 10 gives you Kernel Panics then reinstall and try Chameleon 1.0 + EFI 10)”
When you wrote this, do you mean if it gives you a kernel panic during the install process to try 1.0 or do you mean if the installation gives you a kernel panic?
@ Josh I mean a clean install then use Chameleon 1.0 instead of 2.0
@ EVO Use OSX86 tool for 9400 String, other wise leave the step and boot your SL in Safe Mode then install Nvidia drivers.
@ Shikhar For X58 Motherboards You need to install a Patcher Download here
@ Ben Boot in Safe mode or 32 bit mode and set you Welcome Screen.
@ iDvl Your Leopard extensions will work only in 32 bit mode.
can i backup my existing 10.5.8 extensions? and just overwrite them after install is done?!
actually i want to upgrade the 10.5.8 to 10.6 not to make an clean install.

To Josh Johnson,
It was mentioned in the guide and the kext is AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext from Netkas but couldn’t download from rapidshare…. anyone can help to download and send to my email address? Thanks.
Everything installed without errors. though along the way it kept asking me for the User password.
Maybe the Phase 1 Step one commands didn’t take. (It didn’t give any errors when executed.
chown 0:0 /Volumes/Snow
But result is: after booting it gets stuck and says “Still waiting for root” many times
I did it twice thinking I missed a step first time. But same result the second time.
I have ASUS P5KC, 2GB DDR3, NVIDIA 9600GT 512MD GDDR3 (in 10.5.6 everything worked except Audio.) I have SATA BLueRay Writer, and SATA HD.
Any Help would be appreciated.
I followed this tutorial to the dot. It booted up into that “Welcome!” video and then proceeded to go into the set up. At the point of registering – like step 4 or 5 – it goes to the “You need to restart your computer” kernel panic. HELP! SO CLOSE!
I have a problem with “Step Five” of “Phase Two”. I happen to have a GTX 285 and it’s not in the list. What should I do? Is there any work around or something?
I have been trying to install and get Snow Leopard working this entire weekend (based on various sources) but have failed miserably. I’m hoping this tutorial will help me succeed.
OCZ 12GB DDR3-1600
Galaxy nVidia GTX 285 1GB
WD Black Caviar 500GB HDD
Hope to hear from someone really soon. Any help would be much appreciated!
I followed your guide but as the same KP at boot with 99chan. I’m using a Leadtek Winfast PX9400 GT 512mb ram. I don’t see this in the EFI Studio. How to generate the EFI strings for this Nvidia 9400 GT card?
Another thing is that can i due to my IDE harddrive? Once I can figure out how to add in the GF 9400 GT strings, I will change the hard drive to SATA. Thanks.
I read your troubleshooting, and it mentions a kext for IDE drives. I installed snow leopard on the IDE drive. So I wanted to install the kext, I’m not sure where to install, so I guessed that it goes in the extra/extensions folder?
Got SL installed but it was hanging on AppleRTL8169E. Disabled onboard LAN and now it hangs on “ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::start – waitForService(AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement)” Does anyone know what this error is about? I’m on a Gigabyte EP45T-DS3R and I’ve seen in other forums that there might be a specific issue with Gigabyte boards.
Any help would be appreciated.
Vinay, O printers and languages makes a difference? Can I still install some, such as Brother printers and Japanese language?
I will give that a try now.
Important to note for anyone having installation issues:
I could not get past Phase 1. Every time I tried to install, I would get an “Install Failed” error message. I found out that it is NECESSARY to remove the additional languages and printers. Once I removed them, the install completed.
Just thought I would share in case anyone else was having a similar issue.
@Digktialx Netkas released a package for qe/ci support on SnowLeopard for 48XX cards. It also addes dev-ids into ATI4800Controller.kext plist so just install the package Download Here.
@JJ Guy Warning is normal don’t worry it’s not an error.
Been trying these out. Still working on getting everything right. I was wondering about the video package since all I saw in there were nvidia drivers. I’ve got an ati 4850 am I out of luck or will I need to be pointed to a different package? Thanks
Thanks for reply. One last thing. Is the DSDT Patcher returns any warnings, in my case 2, is that fine or is there a change i should loook into?
@ James Chameleon RC2 is very Unstable and every thread available on net is using either RC1 or Chameleon 1.0, about Cmos error your DSDT isn’t patched correctly.
@JJ Guy Aha my bad, just corrected the error actually the boot file is included with Chameleon download.
I am a little confused on step 2 of phase 2:
“Then Navigate to the root of your “Snow” Drive and delete the “boot” file you see. and replace it with the boot file included System Downloads (you downloaded earlier)”
What boot file are you talkin about in “System Downloads.” I downloaded everything in the links and there is no System Download folder or anything. I am stuck at this step because I need to replace the boot file.
Why use Chameleon 2 RC1 but not Chameleon 2 RC2?
I got CMOS checksum error everytime I reboot my system.
My board is Gigabyte GA-965P-S3
I am sure it is the problem of Chameleon 2 RC1. However, I cannot find the “boot” file which is for RC2 and works for snow leopard.
Vinay , you should update your guide. Firstly , include basic troubleshooting and stuff. Secondly , it doesn’t cover in incase of kernel panic. Thirdly , it will not work if you have EFI partition 200MB which is meant for Leopard , as you’ll have to replace it. Anyway nice attempt on a quick tutorial
If you do have the time , do look at my tutorial (a simple guide) .
Those who are getting kernel panic , its related to iOATAFamily.kext , you gotta get a patched kext from netkas anyway
@ Sam2 AppleRTL8169Ethernet Driver is causing the problem so Disable your LAN in BIOS and boot again. Once you boot in SL then find and install 8169 SL Driver.
@Rob If you have Chameleon 2.0 on your Leopard then you can skip step 2 in Phase 2 else go for step two.
@ Thomas & JJguy Yes you can Install on Same Drive all you need to have a modified OSInstall.mpkg you can google it.
@Solidtruck & Eric Try different boot flags like -x32 -v -x -f and note the error message if any.
@Josh Johnson While Installing SL remove Printers and Languages to make a successful install.
@SilverZero Thanx for your love and support, i noticed your support on InfiniteMac thread.
@ Everyone If you have any Kernel Panic then try to boot with -x32 -v -x and note the error messages. Keep playing because learning is a fun
I tried this but all I got was a blank screen with a flashing dash. It moves down 1 line several seconds after boot and just stays there flashing. What did I do wrong?
I received an error when I was installing snow leopard. it said it was not able to install all of the files to the HD. I went on anyway, it has started up, but it crashes all the time, and at different points. When I mean crashing, i don’t mean the error message in 50 different languages, this one has errors displayed with random codes on the entire screen.
Would it have something to do with the installing error, i cant seem to get around that error either.
Is is possible to install Snow over the existing Leopard or do you have to do an install on another HD?
I am getting a kernel Panic after installation when booting into Snow Leopard. I get the following message every time within a couple of seconds of booting into Snow Leopard “You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button until it turns off, then press the power button again”. Any help is much appreciated
Is it required that you have another hard drive, I’ll have to a little bit of partition reorganizing but is it possible to do it on the same hard Drive?
@ ChainLightning: That’s the “root device” error, it basically means you don’t have the right hard disk controller kexts. You gotta find out what your controller is and find the right extensions for it.
that’s whats called a Kernel Panic or the mac equivalent of a BSOD.
If you followed this guide and installed OSX using chameleon 2 then at boot before the timer runs out before launching OSX press the down or up arrows and it will let you select various options. One of them is -v (Verbose). Choose it and then post what error you’re getting because that will give us a clear idea of where the OS is panicking.
I´ve installed all to my HDD but when the boot screen with the Apple Logo shows up the wheel keeps spinning. A forbidden sign shows up after 5-6 minutes of waiting and nothing else happens. Any ideas whats wrong?
Hi, Phase 2 Step 2 is not clear. Was I supposed to skip step 2 entirely if I was NOT using PCEFI bootloader? GREAT GUIDE I was digg #2!
Looks great! Thanks for taking the time to collect and condense some of the better guides out there. When I installed Snow the other day, I found that I had to modify the com.apple.boot.plist in the System directory (not the Extra version), but I’ll have to try this to see if it still works. Thanks again!
I get Kernel Panic ! I did the installation on a fresh 300G 10K RPM WD, using Chameleon 2.0 RC1.
Will try a few things more!
I can install it but ist have a problem with an AppleRTL8169Ethernet driver
and it stays ond this point when i start with -v
what can i do?
Excellent Guide! Will try to follow and install Snow Leopard when it officially launches this Friday.
