it was predicted Apple released iPhone OS 3.1 if you haven’t download yet, then download your copy from here. OS 3.1 contains a baseband update 5.11.04 BB for iPhone 3G and 3GS. If you are curious to update your iPhone then hold your horses and read this post. First of all if you upgrade iPhone to OS 3.1 you Baseband will be locked permanently and there is no downgrading option available at the moment. Musclenerd tweeted last night about the jailbreak, unlock progress and he showed his iPhone 3G OS 3.1 unlocked with 04.26.08, so wait for Dev team team to release the updated version of Pwnage Tool.

- Added the new option “Save and Copy” while editing the video. In Firmware 3.0 when a video is cut completely lost the original file and saved only one remained unchanged. Now it is possible to maintain both, so we can send short video via MMS without deleting the whole.
- If you hold down the Springboard icon, not just start swinging the iPhone will emit a small vibration
- Solved the problem of multiple SMS: In Firmware 3.0 when multiple recipients, the message is automatically transformed into MMS. Now it is possible to send sms to multiple people without recourse to the small tricks that you proposed.
- Better reception of network
- Improved WiFi Reception
- The Voice Control also works with Bluetooth
- The modem version is updated to 5.08.01 (which probably will not work ultresn0w more)

1st. I want to get cydia on it. I did a little research on youtube and found softwares but all say it works with old BootRoms. Now i have no idea what a bootrom is,and what was the old one.
2nd. If i use those softwares(snow breeze) to jailbrake it,will my original software that is factory unlocked deleted permenantly?
3rd. If at some point i want the original software that i currently hold(Factory unlocked) want it back,how can i get it?
4th. By jailbreaking a custom firmware is installed on the device,will it still be factory unlocked?. I travel alot so not to have a device that supports sims of all regions..

I have never updated my Iphone 3G since i got it in October 2008. I had it jailbroken, but still running on OS 2.2. Problem: there are less and less apps that I can use as they all need the OS 3.0.
The person who did the jailbreak on my phone charged me a fortune and I am not about to pay that much again to jailbreak my phone. However, I lack the knowledge to do it myself. So far the ‘simple’ instructions are way to technical for me. Can anyone help me with instructions on how to update my phone in simple and plain english? I would really appreciate it so much. Thanks! Suggest you sync your contacts, apps, etc… Then general -Reset – Reset all Content & Settings and start over.
Ok, so I have an iPhone 2G that was running on 2.0.1 firmware. I decided to update to firmware 3.1.2 after browsing the web and seeing how easy people made it seem. I first downloaded the IPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw and went through iTunes to restore and completed all the steps (shift+restore then open ipsw file). Then I ran blackra1n after iTunes was finished and showed the usb connect to iTunes on the phone and ran and rebooted it through the blackra1n. Then intalled cydia and rock through blackra1n app on phone, then installed bootneuter. It updated perfectly, but as I started reading, the ipsw file I used was for an iPhone 3G. I didn’t think anything of it until I tried sending a text message. I can’t send text! I can recieve, but cant send. I also have trouble with sending e-mail and sending mms, it just wont send. So I tried the process all over again, this time with iPhone1,1_3.1.2_Restore.ipsw. I still cant send any messages. Can someone please please help me? Oh, and I’m using a t-mobile sim, I don’t have an at&t one.
i have come over this a million times upgraded to 3.1 but some how i got it to go back to 3.0.1 and it works on the redsnow all you have to do is put the iphone in dfu mode and go back like to jailbreaking it to the 3.0.1 pretty sure it works cause i tried it

H, I have a problem = my iphone 3GS crash and stuck with apple logo after I have tried to install application “My Profile”.
I have tried to changed the auto boot status from false to true using irecovery with windows….
But after I execute command =
* setenv auto-boot true,
* saveenv
* fsboot — after this command, the link is broken
And my iphone still stuck with apple logo, the iphone looks like my springboard never load because one or more application kill the springboard loader.
I have tried to jailbreak again with redsnow and after the successfully information show up (the giant spinach run away), my iphone go back to stuck with apple logo again.
so,….please somebody could help me with this problem ??
Hi a lot of ppl have the same problem like me. I had to restore my iphone 3gs using itunes because it was crashing on purplerain and the batt life dropped seriously. When I did the restore itunes updated my phone with the latest firmwire and upgraded the baseband (at this time i did not know about basebands and other restore options). Now im stuck like a large number of ppl with an unlocked iphone. Im asking for all these ppl, can we expect to have jailbreak and unlock for an iphone 3gs with 5.11.07 baseband anytime soon or may after some time.? thx for all the hard work on the Iphone…
accidently i update my iphone 3gs to 3.1 through iTunes and its locked again. and i try to restore it with “iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw”but after awail of runing i get an eror and also i try to jailberak it with redsnow process seems to complete, but the iPhone is just left sitting with a blank, slightly illuminated screen.
If I power down the iPhone using the button and the top and then turn it back on again, there is no sign of Cydia.
any idea how to solve this?!
Vinay, if i had a previously unlocked (originally AT&T, then unlocked by a software as like others) using 3.0.1 and baseband 04.26.08 and by mistake, upgraded to 3.1 with baseband 05.11.07 from iTunes 9.0 and the phone locked again, can the new utility work to UNLOCK the phone which has been released by the dev team? Pleasae reply soon!

I updated to 3.1 using the custom ipsw, firmware is 04.26.08. I then ran the AT&T carrier update to 5.5. When I try to send a picture message is stalls out right at the end of the progress bar and eventually says cannot send. I can send a regular text message.
Anyone know of a fix for this?

I unlocked my 3GS iPhone and used for a week with 3.0.1. By accident, my son trying to be smart updated the firmware to 3.1 through iTunes and its locked again. ANY UNLOCK SOLUTION YET, or expected in the near future? or do I just have one damn expensive paper weight on hand?

If its coming from apple then more than likely ur getting the 3.1 software and baseband, which as we all know is not unlockable at the moment. But from all the research i have done on unlocking the dev team always seems to be able to unlock them… just we have to wait and trust in them.
i’ve currenlty went through 6 iphones in the last just over a year and when my current one went out i asked about a 3gs upgrade discounted. they agreed but now I’m stuck. I’m supposed to set it up monday
and was curious are they shipping with 3.1 or 3.0 still and if I can get 3.0 working with the tmobile unlock…

I updated my 3G to the custom firmware 3.1 and installed ultrasn0w unlock and installed my sim and NO DEAL. NOW my sim card is not recognised by the iphone.unpluged sim card, rebotted etc…. Still does not work….ANY IDEAS ANYONE !!!!

i hope everyone knows that ay site that makes you pay for a “jailbreak” and or “unlock” will simply sell you a free software from the dev team! i just bought the softwar from unlocktheiphone.com and they just sold me pwnage!! ithe only reason i was duped into it was because it said it worked with 3.1 and 3gs so i figured it was some new software they developed…wrong!

The 3.1.1 update on September 25th is for AT&T. It will “unlock” (so-to-speak) the already present MMS features of the iPhone 3GS. This date coincides with AT&T opening the door to iPhone MMS on their network, FINALLY!
Prepare for slow network speeds on the 25th! I’m sure AT&T will get hammered with MMS traffic!
if you have upgrade via itunes to 3.1 like i did
do this to get back to 3.0.1
download 3.0.1 ipsw
go into itunes 8.2 press shift and restore look for your downloaded ipsw and restore when you done iphone will say you need to connect to itune dont
download quickpwn 2.2
boot quickpwn 2.2 with iphone contect it will frezze then unplug iphone and reboot it .now you are back to 3.0.1 connect back to itunes to reactivte now jailbreak with redsn0w 08

While SSHing in to my 3G 8GB yesterday (wanted to get my Cycorder movies off), my iPhone went kaboom.
I got the files off, but then the phone started rebooting ad infinitum. It wouldn’t turn off, and it wouldn’t reset. Had to put it in crisis mode.
I need my phone, so I tried to do a restore to my last backup/OS 3, and iTunes wouldn’t let me! It essentially told me I had auto updates off, and to activate them hit OK. I, of course, hit Cancel. All it did was kick me out and stop the Restore =|
Had to hit OK to continue, and it downloaded the 3.1 update. I had to apply it to Restore. I was sooooo pissed.
Anyhow, my phone wasn’t unlocked, so no loss there… *BUT* I had it exactly how I wanted it. [GRRRRRRR].
- I’m a little confused on the jailbreak part. Will redsn0w work on this version of 3.1? Or was all the talk I’m seeing specific to the Beta?
I look forward to 3.1 jailbreak being released by the Dev Team.
Ok…I have a 3GS unit bought new with the 3.0.1 (7A400)version…I have jaibroke/unlocked my 2g iphone no problem with redsn0w but can’t make it happen with the my new 3gs phone it runs through the entire process but doesn’t install cydia…is that what it supposed to happen with this firmware.

@ lane If you update your iPhone 3GS to 3.1 you may loose your jailbreak permanently. Dev team is working on it be patience…
@ Nate No don’t update to 3.1 in any case without Pwnage tool, the tool is likely to be out very soon so keep checking. Try to UltraSn0w again n again..

Much thanks for your latest updates on jailbreak for OS 3.1. I currently have a jailbroken (but not unlocked) iPhone 3GS running OS 3.0.1. Will my phone be locked/bricked if I upgrade to OS 3.1 since I am running the carrier that was originally meant for the iPhone and it’s just jailbreaking of the software?
@ Delwyn iPhone 3GS Jailbreaking is going hard and harder, because Apple introduced ECID with 3GS. Wait for Dev team release they are working on the way to bypass ECID, iBEC and iBSS. Since none of the features of 3.1 stand out as a “I have to have it now!” you’re better off download and save your Firmware. So you’ll have it handy when the jailbreak software is out, which we’ll tell you about here, naturally.
I have a 2G iPhone and I upgraded last night, unaware that it would block out my T-Mobile Sim card availability. Considering I need a working phone at all times and I’m irritated the new update didn’t even come with MMS messaging, I’m getting a new phone because I dont think the new Pwnage Tool will be able to fix the new baseband on the phone.
Instead I’ll get a tmobile phone. The iPhone was fun while I had it.
To the dude T with the WIFI issues, I have an Iphone 3g, the WIFI went out and wouldn’t work. I set up an appointment with Apple Genius bar, got a brand new Iphone! no muss no fuss!

I have a 3g iphone with 3.0 software. I traveled and noticed when I used my phone overseas it was depleting my pre paid credits – AND no wi-fi. I restored it without the jailbreak and the wi-fi is shot. i read in other posts that this is a regular problem that Apple has not addressed yet. Does anyone know – namely someone from Apple – if the 3.1 upgrade will resolve the wi-fi problem. Currently the country I’m in they’re telling me to upgrad to 3.0.1 however I don’t see that this will fix it – for now I bought a cheap ass phone until I wait for a solution. Someone please advise whether 3.1 will resolve this retarded problem Apple has created. I am away from Canada so won’t be able to take it in and get a replacement.

Can anyone help. I have a 2G unlocked iphone upgraded to os3.1 with a restore in itunes 8.2 and now can’t activate as it requires a pin number to get into. It still seems to be unlocked as it still rings when called with an orange UK sim in it. I also tried restoring to an ipsw built in pwnage 0.3 but itunes keeps coming up with error messages. Help would be much appreciated.

@ Shobhit Oh Great you are using a legit phone then baseband update doesn’t matters you cause you can activate directly from iTunes. My fault i was thinking you are trying to Unlock baseband of your phone so you can use with any other SIM. We covered almost every thing about iPhone downgrading, unlocking, jailbreaking and troubleshooting i hope you enjoyed our site…

If u have updated ur iphone3g os to 3.1 any beta, ur base band is changed and boot loader upgraded to 5.09..which none of them have a fix for..so in a way ur stuck and the only exception is the following:
I have faced this so my telling my own experience so dont ask me abt ny thing else apart from this post::
1. U were tired and u coudn’t get ur phone activated (udid activation) so u decided to downgrade it via itunes. Its simple..just place the firmware 3.0.1 (ipsw file) in the “itunes\iphone software update” folder under ur user name. (search for it if u cant find it) and execute the restore.
2. After everything is done ull should see an error in itunes of 1015 and ur iphone stuck with the itunes logo with a usb cable beneath (recovery mode). Ths the tricky point here now.
3. Now hold ur power and home button at once and hold it for 15 secs..after that remove the home button finger and keep holding the power button for around 3 secs more. this should re-set ur device and u should now see the unlock screen with emergency calling this.
4. Now simply sync up ur iphone and u should see ur iphone with the 3.0.1 firmware working without jailbreak..
5. Now do what ever u wish next.. At least now ur back to zero with a working condition.

I got my iphone 3g upgraded to 3.1 beta 3, and as m not a registered developer i can’t bypass the activation. More over i was some how able to downgrade it back to 3.0.1 but my baseband and boot loader were still pointing to the version from 3.1 beta. I dont care if my phone is jail broken or unlock..all i want is my iphone to work like a phone at least…

@ Shobhit Yea you are right you can downgrade OS but but unlocking the iPhone is directly related to exploiting the baseband and at the moment no tool is capable to unlock baseband over 4.26.08 or iPhone OS 3.0 Now wait for 3.1 and Dev team release.

I forget where I saw it, but clear out your ‘camera roll’ and sync photos back with itunes.
The new version syncs the camera roll poorly and is very slow.
question:
some of the new updates in 3.1
are only made for 3GS? (video)
or does iphone 3G, jailbreaked video include?
does the Dev-team realease a new Redsnow? for the 3.1 jailbreak? or is the 3.0 redsnow jailbreak useless now forever? :S

I have an iPhone 3G.
Since upgrading to OS 3.0, I have never successfully backup my phone even once.
Backup was never a problem to me since OS 2.1, 2.2 and 2.2.1
But since I use OS 3.0, backup took forever.
I once left the backup going while I work. It took more than 6 hours to reach about 75%, then in about 80% it said “can not backup because your iPhone is disconnected”
The fact was, my iPhone was not disconnected.
And when I click the sync button, it worked perfectly, without the backup process.
Do you have any suggestion?
Or should I wait for this OS 3.1?

Somewhat confusing; will ultrasn0w be updated for use with the 3GS, or ultrasn0w for 2/3G w/OS3+, and purplera1n for 3GS?
