iPhone 3G S users save your iBEC and iBSS files of iPhone OS 3.0 for upcoming Jailbreak tools. Also don’t update your iPhone to 3.1 beta and 3.1 final (due to release) until any confirmation from Geohot and Dev team. Geohot already warned us to save iBSS and we also posted a guide to capture  Your 3G S iBSS Certificate for Upcoming Jailbreak by Ecid and Purplera1n. Now Dev team asks to save iBEC and iBSS sig dump. When iTunes starts the restore process, they contact Apple servers to generate signatures just for your device. It’s important you get these signatures for your phone before a new version of the software comes out. ” And to eliminate this limitation you have to generate a unique certificate for your phones iBSS and iBEC. Read this post twice or thrice and get your certificate now before Apple put another limitation.

It’s a lengthy process if you followed step by step guides but we found “iBEC & iBSS Grabbers” an automated tool which take care of capturing your iBEC and iBSS Signature certificates. You can download iBEC and iBSS grabber Click Here.As you can guess from the name, the purpose is to facilitate the copying of the two folders in the temporary files in such a way as to preserve the Jailbreak your iPhone 3GS.

iBEC_iBSS_Grabber1 Instructions :

1.) Select your save directory and navigate to desired folder where you want to save iBEC and iBSS.
2.) Click Start Watching.

3.) To generate your iBEC connect your iPhone 3GS to the computer and launch itunes then select from the list of devices on the left. Hold down the Shift key and click the Restore button and restore your phone with firmware 3.0 iBEC & iBSS grabber will grab and save the iBEC signature as it’ll be generated in %temp folder.

4.) Once the restore has completed iTunes will ask you to restore from backup or set up as a new phone. To keep your settings as before select Restore from the backup of: then click the Continue button

5.) Now time to grab your iBSS signature certificate, To grab iBSS we will need to do another iPhone restore from DFU mode. So put your iPhone 3G S in DFU mode and iTunes will popup a message saying it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. Click okay to this message then Hold down the Shift key and click the Restore button. Again restore your phone to 3.0 and iBEC & iBSS grabber will grab and save the iBSS signature as it’ll be generated in %temp folder.

Now save these files on a safe place because we need these files during the time of upcoming jailbreak. So do this exercise and sit back on sofa and wait for next guide from iHackintosh.

OMG: I already updated my factory unlocked 3GS to 3.1 does this means that I lost any opportunity to jailbreak my phone in the future since I didn’t backed up my iBEC and iBSS. My iphone shipped from Australia with Apple official 3.1 FW. Any suggestions plz.

If i have an iphone 3gs and i did the thing on cydia where it asked at the top if i wanted saurik to save me one of those iBEC and iBSS files, then do i need to do anything else to prepare to update and jailbreak again. i am on 3.0 and i used purplera1n to jailbreak a while ago but all i want to do is jailbreak and not unlock??

HELP!!! I’ve a friend who have jailbroken 3GS with 3.0 FW and He made a big mistake. “Setting->General->Reset All Setting”
Now he can’t restore 3.0 or 3.0.1 with itunes! Any ideas??? HELP!!!

@ Thurein You are still safe if you haven’t tried to update to 3.1, be safe and stay away from 3.1 until Dev team release Pwnage tool. You can’t restore to 3.0 or 3.0.1 because Apple pulled their servers for signing those firmware. So wait for Pwnage tool and then Pwn the 3.1 for your 3GS

How do you do this now. Apple has stopped allowing updates to the iPhone or restoring 3GS for 3.0 or 3.0.1.

Currently, restoring any older versions are not working. Users are having issues, the rsotre process gives a error “device isn’t eligible for the requested build”.

So how to get around that???

    Any updates?

@ Amit dear you are out of luck this post was posted on 2nd July, two months ago.. So for those who haven’t captured their iBEC iBSS should wait for Dev team announcement..

Is there a purpose of doing it twice? Your tutorial says to do once in regular mode and once again in DFU mode. The files generated seem to be identical, but I could be wrong. I dunno which set of data to keep so I kept both. I labeled one folder “not in DFU mode” and the other named “while in DFU mode”… please advise as it’s a little confusing and other sites seem to say, just do it in DFU.
