Jailbreak your iPhone

How to Jailbreak iPhone 3G S OS 3.0

Finally GeoHot released PurpleRa1n to Jailbreak iPhone 3G S OS 3.0 All you have to jailbreak is just download a small 350KB PurpleRa1n.exe (Windows Only). Connect your iPhone 3G S and hit the make it ra1n button and voila your iPhone is jailbreaked. You don’t need any iBEC and iBSS signature files for jailbreaking your iPhone 3GS OS 3.0 but make sure to capture these files for upcoming OS 3.1 jailbreak. PurpleRa1n doesn’t need to put your phone in DFU mode, you don’t need firmware. Just a simple click will take care of your Jailbreak process.

Earlier today Planetbeing iPhone Dev team member and the mind behind Linux on iPhone demonstrated the first iPhone 3G S unlock with Ultrasn0w. Check the video iPhone 3GS Unlock With Ultrasn0w Successful

The sim card inserted in this iphone does not appear to be supported:
Once I unlock my 3GS, I’ve this message from the iTunes.
I’ve tried to switch off the iPhone, remove my sim card, insert the sim card of AT&T, switch on the iPhone and sync iPhone with iTunes. Then, switch off the iPhone, insert my sim card (in my case Movistar ES) and switch on the iPhone again. I’ve got the same error.
    Any idea?

Hank, I don’t understand the reason to wait.
    1. purplera1n will not work on 3.1
    2. It’s not hard to jailbreak your phone
    3. You get to enjoy a jailbroken 3.0 while you wait for 3.1
    4. It’s not like when you jailbreak your 3.0, you can’t install 3.1

is it better to wait until apple releases the os 3.1 before we install purple ra1n?

i clicked install cydia then it says finished and stops, it doesn’t do any thing

Got it to work, just upgraded to the new purplera1n that was uploaded today and it worked pretty easy. Freeze was great, but took about 3 times and a couple of rebooting to finally get the Cydia program to appear. UltrasnOw worked, installed a Tmobile sim and it was very confused, it would lose signal and gain it after a minute and it wouldn’t stop. Rebooted it and left it alone for a couple of minutes and put the Tmobile sim back in and works great! 😉

how long exactly does it stay in “done, wait for reboot?” I followed the steps and once it got to this section, i got the itunes logo and the usb with the arrow on my 3Gs’ screen.

Will the 3.1 update effect the jailbreak with purple ra1n?

    • Vinay July 4, 2009 Reply

@ Hank Answer is in your question, yes OS 3.1 will effect your jailbreak and unlock.

vinay thank you for all your help and work, I did not jailbreak my Iphone
3g 3.0 yet but I am going to do very soon, I just whant to make sure that
    is safe to do.

    • Vinay July 4, 2009 Reply

@ Marco Yes it is safe but be sure you have a 3GS iPhone not a 3G. To jailbreak a 3G you need Redsn0w and to jailbreak a 3GS you need Purplera1n.

But you said “Earlier today Planetbeing iPhone Dev team member and the mind behind Linux on iPhone demonstrated the first iPhone 3G S unlock with Ultrasn0w”

    so the 3Gs can’t be unlocked with the current Ultrasn0w? It’s a different ultrasn0w?

    • Vinay July 4, 2009 Reply

@ Eddie no it’s confirmed that same Utrasn0w can unlock both 3G and 3GS

i restored my iphone than did jailbreak like written here. But phone says “No sim card installed. Insert a valid…” and i can only do emergency calls. I have no At&t card. And i Do not wanna use phone function (now). Is there a way to bypass this screen and use only other functions?

Does it mean I can buy an iPhone from Apple store today and unlock it? Sweet!!!

    • Vinay July 3, 2009 Reply

@ eddie No, it’s not unlocked yet but will be soon.

Looks like the file has been ‘pulled’

“You don’t have permission to access /purplera1n/purplera1n.exe on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.”
