If you have any trouble installing, uninstalling and / or reinstalling itunes you will want to check out this article (link below)...

http://zardozz.com/zz/2008/04/how-to-completely-uninstall-and-remove-all-traces-of-itunes.html

Software and Instructions To Properly Remove iTunes From Your PC:
It can keep you from going nuts !!! Read the comments to the post !!!

Use it only if your ADD/REMOVE program does not work. You may need to make registry edits and this link above has a guide and software with all the information to follow step by step. It's not free but its very cheap and worth it. I was going nuts and this eGuide and software package saved my butt!

The guide and software helped me completely get rid of iTunes and all latent registry entires so I could load a fresh copy with no hassle or errors. I was going nuts trying to completely uninstall it until I found this. You will be pulling your hair out of your head unless you do a thorough removal as described in the referenced article. The link to the software is there too !! Many positive comments at the bottom of the post so I took a chance and it worked great! :)

@Boris
8.2 works fine with the jailbroken iphones. Only issue I've noticed is the inability to install certain apps because I never did the 2.2.1 upgrade, but that's a separate issue.

actually you can go in the itunes folder and delete the library and genius files. you will lose your current playlist but you can always create a new one for your downgrade

Sorry,
Ignore the second part of my question. He wasn't looking at all of his pages. But I still recommend using File Hippo.

Hey,

Thanks for all the info. I also had a brain-fart this evening and ran the 8.2 software update on my Mac version of iTunes. My iPhone 3G is already jailbroken, and the previous comments make it sound like using an already jailbroken iphone with 8.2 shouldn't be a problem, but that's not completely clear to me. It sounds like problems occur only if one wants to run Pwnage Tool with 8.2; do I understand this correctly? I'd like to avoid the whole downgrade-iTunes-rigamaroll and just wait for the 8.2 Pwnage patch; will my already jailbroken iPhone work okay with iTunes 8.2? Thanks for the clarification/confirmation.
