These are instructions on how to unlock/jailbreak your 2G iPhone to the 3.0 iPhone firmware using QuickPwn for Windows and Mac. Before beginning make sure you have updated to iTunes 8.2 This guide is for unlocking and Jailbreaking your iPhone 2G A.K.A iPhone Edge. I have tested this guide and it works perfectly on my iPhone. Many of us are looking for OS 3.0 because of MMS and Tethering, but let me confirm that these functions are not supported with iPhone 2G even it runs the OS 3.0 If you are new to business and unaware of basics then follow the following posts to be familiar with common iPhone jailbreaking and unlocking terms.

Once you have completes all download then read this guide twice or thrice before doing anything. For iPhone 2G there is no baseband update so feel free to play.

Step One : Create a folder on desktop and name it whatever you wants in the following article we named it iHackintosh. Now put all your downloaded files in the iHackintosh folder. Now connect your iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes.

Step Two : Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left. Now hold down shift and click the Restore button. Restore is preferred as it won’t create any wasted space on your iPhone.

Step Three : Navigate to the iHackintosh folder on your desktop and select the 3.0 firmware ipsw. Click the Open button to continue.

Step Four : Once iTunes has finished updating your iPhone to the 3.0 firmware you may launch QuickPwn.exe from the iHackintosh folder on your desktop.

Step Five : Make sure you iPhone is connected to the computer and click the blue arrow to continue.

Step Six : Click the Browse button to locate your iPhone firmware.

Step Seven : Select the 3.0 firmware ipsw from the Pwnage folder on your desktop then click the Open button.

Step Eight : QuickPwn will check to make sure the ipsw is valid. Click the blue arrow button to continue.

Step Nine : You can now select whether to Add Cydia, Add Installer, Replace Boot Logos, and Unlock Phone. Select the ones you would like to perform then click the clue arrow button

Step Ten : You will now be asked to select your bootloader files. Click the Browse button and select the 3.9 bootloader from the iHackintosh folder on your desktop. Likewise do the same thing for the 4.6 bootloader file. Then click the blue arrow button to continue.

Step Eleven : QuickPwn will now ask you to confirm your iPhone is connected via USB before continuing. Click the blue arrow button to proceed.

Step Twelve : QuickPwn will now automatically put your iPhone into recovery mode. Once its in recovery mode you will be prompted to: Hold the Home button for 5 seconds, Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds, then release the Power button and continuing holding the Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode.

Watch the prompts carefully and follow along.

Step Thirteen : Once QuickPwn detects your iPhone in DFU mode it will begin the jailbreak process.

Step Fourteen : Once jailbreaking is complete QuickPwn will inform you that it was successful. Your iPhone will then proceed to run BootNeuter. This process will take about 5 minutes. Please be patient. Your iPhone will reboot when it has completed the process successfully!

i mean, i’ve spent the last hour or so trying to find the required files to jailbreak iphone 2G.

“Once you have completes all download then …”, where are these file that I need to download? I know you’re smart but just doesn’t make sense to run your reader around.

Thanks for posting the instruction. However, I am still using ver. 1.1.1, do I need to upgrade the firmware to 2.0.1. before to the latest version, 3.0.1 ?

@govinda Redsn0w is the program you need to use. Only download from trusted sites, but it is a solid program. That’s why it’s standard.

@jdeej777 It doesn’t matter what was done to it previously. Just make sure you have the correct version of 3.0 (direct from Apple) and the bootloaders before you start. Start by updating it through iTunes to 3.0, which will lock your phone again. Then run Redsn0w, using your iTunes downloaded 3.0 firmware.

@iASK just upgrade to 3.0 using iTunes first, then follow the directions with Redsn0w.

hey guys I have iphone 2g, bought this from craigslist and have let somebody jailbreak/unlock it for me with 2.0.1 firmware for use with TMobile. Thing is, I’m not sure what tool was used to jailbreak it.

Question is, do I upgrade direct to 3.0 or should I upgrade to previous versions before 3.0 first?

    Thanks! Appreciate any response…

Will their be a QuickPWN 3.0 release? I know a new redsn0w is out that does about the same process as QuickPWN. But no one said anything about redsn0w is released instead of QuickPWN and that their will be no QuickPWN 3.0.

I have a little problem using RedSnow:
I completed the six steps and everything goes well, but
after downloading the jailbreak data my 2G Iphone restarts
and goes to DFU- mode. So I just see the iTunes-logo with the
USB- cable. Is there anyone who can help me, please?
What do I have to do??

Hi Vinay…got a question about the Unlock Phone option in Step Nine.

My iPhone 2G is already unlocked/jailbroken with fw 2.2.2.

I am going to wait for the official release of QuickPwn 3.0. As far for step nine… should I check ‘Unlock Phone’ along with Cydia and other Installer? ..or no since my phone is already unlocked?

  19. iASK June 20, 2009 Reply

do i need to downgrade from 2.2.1 to a lower version(2.0) just to upgrade to 3.0.?

or i will keep the 2.2.1 then update to 3.0 when quickpawn(compatible for 3.0) is already out to jailbreak the latest OS of iphone(mine is iphone 2g 8GB)??

just to clear things out.. thank you

    Vinay,
Thanks for sharing these guides with us.
I have a 2G running 2.2.1 using quickpwn for windows since first release of quickpwn (my first original was 1.0.2).

After reading carefully this and your previous guide “Unlock iPhone 2G OS 3.0 7A341 Final Version” (http://www.ihackintosh.com/2009/06/unlock-iphone-2g-os-3o-7a341-final-version/)I still have a doubt I’d like to clear with you.

As far as I understood that guide is an alternative and longer procedure in order to have a 2G iphone running 3.0 firmware.

My doubt is the following. There in the download section you point out to “iPhone Firmware v3.0 Final ” (http://is.gd/XkMW)
Is this firmware version the exactly same one we download from Itunes 8.2 ? ‘
If so, it means that after running your guide I will have my 2G running 3.0 unlocked (using another carrier rather than ATT) and Jailbreaked (or not ?). Does the only thing that the new quickpwn to be released by the dev team soon will add to my phone after running your procedure will be fixing the youtube problem ?

Please confirm if my understanding is correct as I believe many other readers have the same doubt.

    Many thanks in advance

Vinay, thanks for the gr8 work. Question can I use this guide to put OS 3 onto my 2G tombile iPhone using QuickPwn 2.2.5? If so how will I activate the phone? Will it activate via iTunes?

  22. Der June 20, 2009 Reply

Vinay, thanks for the response earlier. One more question, once the quickpwn 3.0 is released (hopefully soon), will I be able to go from 2.2 to 3.0 or will I have to do 2.2.1 to 3.0?

  23. Andrew June 19, 2009 Reply

Thank you for posting. When i download the 3.0 firmware the filename ends ipsw.zip when it unarchives it is just a folder with all the components for the firmware but not in ipsw format. Am i missing something?

Vinay, I am sorry but I have tried for hours to get your “How to Downgrade iPhone 3G / 2G 3.0 back to 2.2.1″ to work…I have uninstalled Itunes and gone back to 7.5, then popped it to 8.1, I have tried putting into the VDF mode, which I can do, then I have tried the whole things over and over. I get errors in Itunes, (1) (2) and cannot find a mention of these so kept on then trying Quickpwn for 2.2, and trying to install file 2.2istw…all to no avail. Please can you go through options for me. Also after eagerly awaiting the new Ultrasn0w programme, I have read today that it is not for 2g phones….so really I feel completely stuck now. Please help my friend :)

    Hi Vinay..
Wow! Thanks for the very speedy response! O.K, I will hold on for the release of QuickPwn 3.0 to enjoy the latest iphone firmware but for the time being, can you point me to a direct and strightforward guide on downgrading and Unlocking the Iphone to maybe an older firmware so that i canbe using my foreign Sim on it till the release of the new quickpwn.
    Thanks a mil!

  27. Der June 19, 2009 Reply

Vinay, do you have any idea when quickpwn will be released for download because I have been waiting and waiting and I really want to get this 3.0 firmware on my phone!

    • Vinay June 19, 2009 Reply

@ der not exact but i think the wait will be worth dev team can roll out the tools without Youtube fix but they are trying to get rid of youtube activation. Keep patience i’d like to have a complete jailbreak rather than partial :)

I have accidentally upgraded my Iphone 2G from 2.2 to 3.0. I can make outgoing and recieve incoming calls but the screen stays on emergency and I can’t use my iphone other than incoming and outgoing calls. What should I do. Will it work by just using Quickpwn, which version, where can I get it

  29. Monito June 18, 2009 Reply

Short question Vinay for those of us who had unlocked it using your previous guide with quickpwnRC3, should we use quicpwn and re-unlock?Thanks!

    • Vinay June 18, 2009 Reply

@ Montino You have both the option wait for QuickPwn 3.0 and apply jailbreak only or put your phone in recovery mode and update to 3.0 then use QuickPwn 3.0 to do unlock + jailbreak together. Choice is yours.
