@ Linus MMS and tethering support is for iPhone 3G OS 3.0 only. Lets hope Swirly and PDANet to get updated very soon.
Yo Vinay, Installed it and it works like a charm…2 questions though…after I installed it iTunes told me…”Congratulations, your iPhone has now been unlocked” …as far as I know my phone was not locked…what does this mean?
I have used it on other networks when traveling abroad and used the local networks’ simcards in my phone.
1. Is the version you download from here the same as the one you download through iTunes?
2. My Carier is Vodacom SA, in South Africa, and the network does support MMS(Had it and used it on must of my previous phones), but for some reason the photo button does not appear.Any advice ?

because as far as know iphone software for 2G is not enable MMS and video recording features.
the 3.0 update does not have voice control at all. i have a iphone 3g and im running the 3.0 software. the only voice function it has is voice memos. so r u getting confused with the iphone 3gs, or are u running a diffirent 3.0 to everyone else????? im just asking cos the only reason i updated to 3.0 was to get the voice control but as per usual apple didint deliver

@ Sam nope you can’t install firmware of 3g to 2g, it’s not allowed even by iTunes.

i’ve downloaded some but cant seem to find any firmware ending with ipsw
When it downloads Safari unzips it and the .ipsw becomes a folder with a different name that redsn0w doesn’t recognize. How do I get the right format?
@ Ron & Everyone who uses Mac & Safari : If you are using Safari and want to download a .ispw follow this guide to change a setting and everything will be good.
Open Safari.
Go to the menu bar (top of your screen) and Click Safari.
Select Preferences.
Go to General.
Uncheck the Open “safe” files after downloading box.
Close preferences and find your firmware above here and download it.
I have an iP{hone 2G Edge. It was running 2.2.1. I had unlocked it in January with Pwnage 2.2.5 with Mac )S 10.5.
I have been struggling to get my iphone working. With Red snow it goes through and says done click finish then the iphone display remains the same “Downloading Jailbreak Data but it does that forever.
I have also unsuccessfully tried Pwnage 3.0 but that caused it to be stuck in Recovery or boot mode then the recovery would come up and nothing would happen.
Then uses pwnage 2,2,,5 go through and do restore, restore and update and iTunes ends with error code 23 or 1600. I have tried just about all of the USB ports.
I am about to run through every .ipsw file with itunes 8.2 with each usb port but it is so frustrating.

I have run this redsnow twice now. I get all the way to th ewaiting for reboot. The program says it will take 5 to 8 minutes but when I get to that window it takes forever. Much longer than 8 minutes. There is a bar at the bottom of the window that looks like a progress bar and it doesn’t show any progress at all. Is it supposed to? What could be wrong?
My phone is 2G version 3.0(7A341)

I have the same exact problem as WF. I’ve used redsn0w almost seven times now [following each direction PRECISELY as specified] and it NEVER loads. I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong.

@ Mauro Don’t do double click just connect your iPhone to computer then launch iTunes. In first windows press shift+restore button and locate the firmware file you downloaded.

Hi…I had an unlocked/jailbroken 3g phone. I did the update to 3.0 thru itunes and now I get this message in itunes that says “the SIM card inserted into this phone does not appear to be supported”. On the phone it just allows me to use it for emergency calls only. I have tried to put it in restore mode but it does change anything. HELP!!

^I download it, and I cant locate it for some reason when itunes opened the folder. i dont know how to convert to .ipsw cause now it’s a zipped folder. Can you help me?
I am going to explain how you change it to the .ipsw.
Ok first
You have go to folder options, on vista( my computer>organize>folder and search options) and then go to view tab uncheck hide extensions for unknown files click apply and then hit ok
and then close my computer and then right click on the zip file, take out the .zip at the end and type .ipsw instead of it
there it is!!!!

Guys, if u are downloading the firmware, unzip it then just change the part after the . To .ipsw and it will work, ur welcome.
Guys I downloaded the .ipsw and upload it using itunes (shift + restore) .. it goes through but then the iphone is permanently on DFU mode.. HELP!
PD I was applying this to a jailbroken Iphone 3.0.1
I wanted to un-jailbreak and then jailbreak again, since I have lost wi-fi for some reason. Ie.. the Iphone see the wifi networks but wont connect, even to open ones.

I want to ask if iphone 3G software update will work on 3GS because Apple never said they release iphone 3G which is 16GB but I do see alot of iphone 3G with 16GB.

i’m in the us and i just bought an unlocked 2g iphone on ebay i’ll be receiving it soon (i hope!) i don’t know if it is running the latest software and if it isn’t, and i’m using tmobile if i update, will it lock the phone again? i’m not sure if i want to try to deal with unlocking it again ect unless its going to work for sure…
