The Rumored Mac Tablet and Electronic Medical Records.
Apple Mac Tablet rumor is floating on blogsphere. It is rumored that Apple may launch or announce a Tablet PC with multi touch screen very similar to iPhone. It will run the full Mac OS X and have a slot loading SuperDrive, an “iPhone-type” GPS chip and an Intel Core Duo processor, probably Intel’s Atom based processor. Macrumors mecca of rumors for Apple already pointed that Apple has patented several tablet designs since 1995. Means tablet is not a new project inside Apple camp they are working on it a long time ago. WWDC is around the corner predicted dates of June 8th-12th at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Recent rumors from Boy Genius and others have mentioned that there is a Apple Netbook/Tablet type of device on the horizon. Three different reports of a 10-inch touch screen heading into Apple products make this all the more plausible.
EMR The electronic medical record of health-related information on an individual that is created, gathered, managed, and consulted by licensed clinicians and staff from a single organization who are involved in the individual’s health and care. Limitations in software, hardware and networking technologies has made EMR difficult to affordably implement in small, budget conscious, multiple location healthcare organizations. Tablet PC technology has significantly improved over the recent years, Li-Ion/polymer batteries for battery life of up to 8 hours, biometric security, low-voltage processors and lighter weight solutions. For the new generation of Tablet PC, there are now EMRs that are fully handwriting capable. Apple iTablet will be a new hope of ray for improving EMR.

There is a seemingly endless amount of medical applications that could be developed for a Mac Tablet. However, we think it would be the ultimate interface for electronic medical records (EMRs). Ease-of-use has been a primary barrier to EMR adoption, so Apple – known for intuitive design and usability – would be welcomed by physicians. So here we ruminate on the possibility of a Mac Tablet and present ideas on its use with EMRs.
An Apple tablet would be the ultimate UI for electronic medical records. With a touch-screen display like the iPhone, using the EMR during an encounter would be simplified.
