How to Convert .DMG to .ISO on Windows Computer.

ISO image is an unattached file format (like RAR and ZIP): it merges a series of files into one single file according to a definite format. The most important feature of an ISO image is that it can be burned to a DVD, VCD, or CD by using an ISO image burner, like ISO Maker. It can also be opened using archivers such as 7-zip file manager. Apple uses Disk Image a file with the extension .dmg When opened, DMG files are “mounted” as a drive within the Finder. This guide is for Windows users who might have downloaded a dmg file and wondering how to extract the content, or not even knowing how and what to do with the dmg file.

1. Download MagicISO, install and run program.

2. Click to open DMG files.

3. Click to open “Properties” dialogs.

4. Uncheck Apple HFS and Apple HFS+

6. Click OK

7. Click to save as to iso image. or click to burn to CD/DVD without saving.

after doing these settings and trying to open the .dmg file an error, can’t find file or isn’t CD image file pops out. is my image corrupt or is there a compatibility issue? thx

I’m an IT consultant and very experienced with MagicISO, powerISO, macs, pc’s, and computers in general. I’ve tried various versions up to the most recent version as of 6/26/2009 and these steps have NEVER worked for me. I wish people would stop posting these steps. I’ve used MANY different DMG files over the years that ALL have failed using these steps. Simply put, IT DOES NOT WORK. MagicISO DOES NOT convert DMG to ISO even though I’m sure they claim that it can.

I could open the DMG file just by dragging it into the file section of MagicISO. Then I followed their instruction , I saved the file into ISO . Yes, I got an ISO file .

But that ISO file was just a shit . You know, I opened that ISO file with Daemon Tool, then I got … the same DMG file as the original .

I tried again and again in several ways. Now I just can say that MagicISO producer are just liars.

What a waste of my time !

I have the same problem it is shit MagicISO do the same thing I am doing right now go on torrentz.com and look for Mac OS X Install DVD (Leopard 10.5.1).iso and MAC.OSX.SNOW.LEOPARD.V10.6-HOTiSO i v got then around 20 to 30% now and still going strong hope this help

ashok is correct. In fact you can burn the mac disc or you can open the .dmg file and copy the files from the disc, and onto your computer. Then you can use magicISO or any other .iso creator to make the disk image (.iso). Have fun!

If only Apple knows the meaning of ISO standard, they should use ISO image in the first place. Insted, Jobs created a new format of CD image which cannot be used by any computer except Mac PC. Even if you can convert DMG to ISO, they cannot be opened by any other Linux or Windows based PC. This software only conver the part that are formatted by NTFS or FAT32. Apple computer is for layman or people like to show-off, Fedora rules.
