How to Hard Reset your iPhone/iPhone 3G

2 February 2009 by Vinay 12 Comments

Some time it takes a bit long to get response from your iPhone,Some time’s iTune refuses to sync or crashed during syncing most usually after the Firmware update,Some time iphone become sluggish after using two or three months if you are also facing these kinds of problem then go for hard resetingg your iPhone as described below.

Apple Support documented how to perform a reset. However, note that resetting the iPhone or iPod is not the same with restoring the iPhone or iPod. Restore will erase and wipe out completely all information and data that contained inside the device,

  1. Press the sleep/wake button and the home button simultaneously for more than 12-15 seconds, ignore the “Slide to power off” and keep holding.

  2. The iPhone would go blank after few seconds and would automatically shut down.
  3. Wait for ~10 to 15 seconds and then turn the iPhone back on by hitting the sleep/wake button.
  4. You should now see the Apple logo, your iPhone is restarting and thus booting up.
  5. Your iPhone will now reboot. Hard Reset process is complete.

That’s it……..

I own a iPhone 3g 8gig. I bought off a co worker who sat next to me and never had a problem with it. I used it for a full day before buying it.

I activated it today and wanted to start from scratch so I did a complete wipe and reset all setting and content of the phone.

I did it @ 7pm its almost 12am midnight now and the wiping ended when the bar was completed, and then the apple logo came up white with a black screen. It ha stayed this way for 3 hours.

It flahes in intervals of about 3minutes and a ring of lines under the apple logo that go away and re appear, i tired connectting it to itunes, hard resetting it,, and nothing..

Any advice? is 5 hours the usual time? the phone barely had alot of memory built up , it had maybe 10 added programs, 3 gigs of music and 100 pix @ most.

    Any ideas or help?

    Hello,
Here is the solution .. I have copied it as it is and i’ve tried it and it did work.
“This problem happened to me on going to firmware 1.1.4
I had a 5 second loop that prevented me from entering the reset mode.
I finally got out by doing the following:
    Bring up iTunes,
Place iPod/iTouch on the cradle ( let it come up in its loop )
then press and hold the power button and the home key simultaneously
Keep these pressed until the screen goes black, then release the power button but keep pressing the home key. If it does not work the first time, repeat it. I tunes will eventually detect that there is a device in reset mode and ask if you want to reset, hit yes and hopefully you will be able to get out. Notice that if you have not synced your iphone recently, you may loose some of you info.

    Good luck”

    Hi,

    I have a brand new jailbroken unlocked iPhone 3GS 16GB OS 3.0

When i was installing some ringtones from Icy, something went wrong (i think winterboard got installed) and iPhone went into safe mode.

In order to delete all those changes i went to Settings–>General
    –>Erase All contents and Settings

It took much long time there, so i hard reseted the iPhone in around 20 mins (pressing power + home button for 10 seconds)

Now my iPhone is not starting, its goes into hang mode, shows apple icon and progress bar. Also battery is not getting charged.

Can anyone please help me to find out solution to this problem.

    Thanks,
    Mang
