I accidentally updated my iphone 3g by using iTune 2.2.1. After that, I use Quickpwn 2.2.5 to JAILBREAK my iPhone because I am a windows user. I haven’t read devteam warning. If devteam release YellowSn0w that support 2.30.03, can still have a chance to unlock my iPhone 3G?

    • Terry said:

I am having a similar issue as Rusty. I have used this guide on 3 iphones and it worked perfectly. However, on the one im doing now, after I hold home button for 5 seconds, then hold power and home button, then continue to hold home it counts down to 21 seconds then goes into preparing iphone. At that point, it will not reconnect after restart. Any ideas?

    • Terry said:

It also get stuck at a white screen and will not reconnect after preparing iphone.

I have several programs installed and so on.
To get everything done can be updated without losing the programs as they are now?
Or is there to update the firmware again and then do the jailbreak process?
I plan to movistar, I’m not interested to use another chip.
Could tell me that I do?
      Thanks

      @ Claudio
You can backup your Cydia Applications only before upgrading follow this

Before Upgrading you are advised to backup your existing cydia applications with AptBackup by following tutorial.

      1. Go to Cydia and install AptBackup
      2. Launch AptBackUp and hit the backup button
      3. Sync your device (do not resync again or your backup will be gone and you’ll need to do step 2 again)
      4. Restore your device and jailbreak again
      5. Launch Cydia and reinstall AptBackup and hit the restore button
      6. Run the app and hit restore. All your applications will be downloaded and your device will reboot.

      Thanks

    • Mentalikryst said:

To everybody: It does work for any baseband (modem firmware). The only thing that does not work is the unlock for 2.2.1, so you’re stuck with AT&T. But, if you are an AT&T customer, it should not affect you.

BTW, just FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS and RESTORE TO A CLEAN FIRMWARE BEFORE JBing.

      same thing happened..

    • Brandon said:

Hi, I think Im having trouble.. I’ve been at the apple logo boot for almost 30 minutes… did I mess up? Can you help fix it?

    • Vinay Prashar said:

@ Brandon @ Harry Guys it seems that you have done something wrong in the procedure but don’t worry we have a solution. I assume you are not on a Mac 10.5.6 because it has some DFU related problem so preffer to use Windows for jailbreaking 2.2.1

      1) Power off the iPhone by depressing both the sleep/wake button on the top of the iPhone and the home button. Wait for the iPhone screen to turn black aka screen-off.

      2) Depress the home button and connect the iPhone/iPod sync cable into the docking port on the bottom of the iPhone at the sametime without removing the home button.

      3) You should be able to see the Apple logo coming up on the iPhone and then the recovery screen with be shown after the Apple logo:

      4) iTunes will start and inform you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode and you should restore your iPhone to start using it.

      5) Perform your firmware restore.

      6) Run Quickpwn again and everything should go fine.

I have a legit ATT contract with an iphone 3G 2.2.1 firmware.
If i jail break it and install cydia, will it affect my ATT contract?
im on Edge network, will that make any difference?

      Thanks

When I run the program and get to the step by step part it sits at wait for your iPhone to connect in recovery mode… at the bottom it had preparing your device – please follow the instructions above. Do I just start to follow them or will the gray words go black to let me know when to start the other stuff?

    • Glenn said:

      Hi Vinay

I have had exactly the same problem as @ Brandon @ Harry. I am now following your instructions on how to get out of this situation and have become unstuck.

      I am at:
      3) You should be able to see the Apple logo coming up on the iPhone and then the recovery screen with be shown after the Apple logo:

The recovery screen never appears, have left it sitting on the apple logo for some time now. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Clearly I am a noob. I did not follow your instructions correctly.I did not keep holding the home button in after releasing the power button and plugging it in… Will try again soon, recovery time now!
      Thanks

    • Vinay (author) said:

@ Glenn It seems you are not achieving DFU mode successfully try again..

My iphone is already jailbroken, but it appears that it only can detect ad hoc networks thru wifi. It cannot detect my wireless network at home. Is there any way to solve this? Or are all jailbroken iphone 3g 2.28 have this problem?

      thanks

    • Glenn said:

      Hi Vinay

So I was able to restore my Iphone (3G 2.2.1) and had another go at Jailbreaking it using your instructions.
The exact same thing happened, all went fine up until it rebooted at the end. The Apple logo stayed on the screen, and the phone would not boot. The phone will vibrate every 3 minutes or so, for a few times, then reboot again.

Is it something to do with the boot loaders?

Perhaps my Iphone is not compatible with Quickpwn?

Should I downgrade to 2.2 and try again?

Thanks for any comments in advance.

    • Glenn said:

Well, after another failed attempt, I managed to get it to work. Here’s what I did:

When I realised the phone would not boot after the Jailbreak process finished, I put it in DFU mode.
Then I waited for Itunes to restore it.
Instead of restoring to my backup, I went through the Jailbreak process again, following the instructions to the letter.
This time I left the option to replace boot logo selected.
The Jailbreak process finished and the phone booted fine.

I Then restored to my backup via itunes, and the re-synced with my libary/applications/etc in Itunes.

Now I have my exact same Iphone with all my apps and songs, but now it’s Jailbroken and I have custom tones :D

BTW here is a great tutorial for those who have JailBroken:

      Thanks again Vinay, great work!

everything worked up until i got to the screen where you put it in dfu mode. It was stuck on the first part of the page, whatever that was. something about preparing your iphone for recovery mode. i basically have the same problem as “rusty”. any assistance would be much appreciated. i am re-restoring my iphone, then i’m going to try again, but if that doesn’t work, then i don’t know what to do.
