Intel showcased Moblin first Linux optimized for Intel Atom and Netbooks.
We’re hearing more and more about specific netbook-optimized operating systems, and Intel is joining in the game with an alpha release of Moblin, their netbook Linux OS optimized for Atom.
Moblin is based largely on Fedora (red hat), and it’s still a work in progress, but its main goal is to optimize performance for Atom and Core 2 processors running on smaller machines. The alpha Intel just released already has an innovative network connection manager and fast optimized boot times, and it’ work well with Dell’s Mini 9. While working on Mini 9 the OS seems to be faster then Ubuntu and boots real quick thanks to Intel engineering coz fedora is one of the slowest distros and i am also not fan of RPM based distro’s i prefer Debs.
Performance is all well and good, but what I’m most interested personally is finding the perfect graphical UI for a netbooks’ smaller screen. Right now Moblin is using the Xfce (no kde 4 and Gnome Buhhh) desktop, which is pretty bread and butter. Later in the development they might swith to diffrent Desktop Enviourment. They might have there custmoized UI like Dell has customized UI for Mini 9. Waiting for the next Beta.
